K&N Filters

Right. He should put the wing on the front where might actually do something.

You young boys must not know nuthin' 'bout NASCAR.
If there's a "wing" on the front; usually below the front valence; it's called a "splitter." And no, I don't have one of those.....yet.

I bet he has a wing on it to. On the back, on a front wheel drive car.

Hmmm, my FWD car had a wing on the back. Was good for 85lbs of downforce at 140ish, not for increased traction, but rather to offset the lift induced by the Neons bubble shape moving at that speed. dont confuse the use a top fuel draster has for a wing with the use a road car car might have for it. Engineers said they could have gotten the same effect from a spoiler, but since the marketing guys insisted the car have a wing, it might as well do something.

Dont get we wrong, generally speaking, the wings you see on FWD cars are useless, but that doesn't meant they all are.

I have the perfect motivational picture for this discussion 'at home'

Something tells me he's not getting that Cruze up to 140. Unless there's more to the air filter than I'm aware of.

Keep your old parts around. I have seen more than on car with K&N system that had to be put back to original because of problems with the K&N systems.

When I can put hands on one of these; it's goin' in.

Most likely not, although you might be surprised to find out how fast a lot of modern cars will go if you remove the limiters. Think the V6 Chargers top out above 130, while the 5.7 liter Hemis will crack 150 easy. But you are right, takes speeds of silly proportions to need any real aero stuff.

Best I can find on the Cruze is in the area of a little over 124, and that's noted as drag limited, not an electronic limiter. Might be with more power it could go faster, but since I suspect it's tries are only good for 130mph tops, there might be a limiter it just cant reach sitting at 128 or so. But maybe not:) I know my car has no limiter becuase they fitted stock tires that are capable of speeds teh car in stock form cannot reach. Neon was the same way.

How much do you think a wing is going to do for you at those speeds?
Not adding a wing. Don't need one. Don't want one.

Couldn't hit 140 'round town anyway; which is where I do most of my driving.
I guess I just wanna prove or disprove the K&N claims; for myself; that just adding an air filter improves whatever it's supposed to improve: be it throttle response; or whatever.

if you will
You should lower it too, just like that Yugo you used to drive.

My Cruze Eco is supposedly a super-huge 0.4" lower than the other versions of the Cruze. Supposedly for aerodynamics. About an inch more would look nice, but I like the smooth ride too much.

Unless you are doing some weekend fun runs, or have a turbo car save your pennies. Most CAI, or as most should be called WAI (warm air intake) are only good for a few decibels of extra noise. They can also be good for some quicker throttle response, but unless you are going for a tune to actually adjust the way the pedal reacts with the servos on the throttle body you will not see a huge difference.

On the other hand when I first bought my truck to go along with my tune I built a custom intake tube from schedule 40 PVC. I used a K&N cone filter and gutted the factory airbox to act as a dam against engine heat. PVC is excellent at not absorbing the heat like metal, it all insulates the air inside the tube from the heat under the hood. To make it more efficient I purchased a a grill enter be for my truck which has cutouts for headlight washers, which I do not have. The headlight also has a hole for the wiring and hoses for said washer, it just so happens that the intake tube is directly behind this hole. With ambient air temps of 95, humidity in the 80% area, at speeds of 65-70 MPH the IAT sensor will be in the 60 degrees range. It may sound ghetto but it works, total spent $75. New K&N intake for a 2004 Trailblazer in 07, $259+S&H.
