Kevin McCarthy

Maybe the rule should be that “I and all of the people that voted for me cast our votes for “whoever””.
There really ought to be a rule that you can't be nominated without throwing your hat into the ring.
What would have happened if a rule existed that if Jordan refused the nomination, the votes couldn't be cast?

McCarthy's style of leadership is to twist whichever way the wind is blowing, to say "how high" when someone says "jump". He is spineless and gutless. He wanted the speaker title so bad he gave in to every concession asked of him and showed himself to be a class A wimp in the process. He should have removed himself from consideration after the first few votes and went back to his hell hole in California with at least some shred of dignity. He's not going to lead the charge for anything, he will simply get run over by it.

Boehner all over again.

And then there's this:

Storms over to try and make a fight with Gaetz. Then starts to walk away, changes his mind and storms back over to bitch some more. Will surely strip Gaetz of his committees and work hard to primary him. I'd give anything to know what was said in that exchange.

This is the bullshit we get with a "Republican" as Speaker, so how are we better off than if we'd gotten Hakeem Jeffries?

I feel for Gaetz. You don't go against the mob. Apparently Republicans aren't allowed free speech and dissent, either, making them exactly like the ****ing Democrats.

This clown that Kevin McCarthy is worse than:

Flip all of that around and you have the Democrat Party. And McCarthy STILL sucks just as much and he proved it by attacking the Reps who wouldn't kiss his ass.

They used to broadcast the Parliament fist fights on the news once in a while.

I’d love to see a congressional cage match.

Everything he said was a freaking lie. A freaking lie. It took balls to lie like that when we all know it was a lie.

Among other concessions wrung from the GOP were the following agreed improvements:

— A single member can move to elect a new speaker, a decades-old rule eliminated during Pelosi’s bloody reign.

— Votes on term limits will be allowed, as well as on the adoption of a budget resolution that balances the budget in 10 years.

— The House will cap fiscal year 2024 spending at FY 2022 levels.

— The House will reject any spending bills with the Senate until the Senate passes its own spending caps.

— The House will not increase the debt limit absent matching spending cuts or other fiscal reforms.

— The House can once again reduce or de-fund the salaries of specific federal officials, like Fauci, if he were still employed by the government.

— Three members of the House Freedom Caucus will be seated on the key House Rules Committee, which sets the House’s terms of debate.

The rebellious legislators also extracted promises for two new committees:

— A committee to examine the weaponization of government against U.S. citizens, described as a “Church-style” committee, including Thomas Massie, Chip Roy, and Jim Jordan.

— A committee ensuring no more bills are brought up on the floor until at least 72 hours have passed, giving members time to review them.

Representative Mary Miller (D-IL) described the final dealmaking as a victory that will stop any more insane Biden omnibus spending bills:

Meet the new boss.... (insert wanking emoji here)

Congress has been saying these things my whole entire life and so far the only politician who tried to follow through on it was Donald J. Trump, and he found out right quick that it was just blather and they had no intention of doing any such things.

Like term limits - are any of those grifters going to vote to retire themselves? (The answer is no, they're not.)

Balancing the budget - this has been a campaign promise MY WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE and not one time has it been done.

Spending caps - again, MY WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE.

Well, the GOP is famous for awarding nominations to people "because it's their turn". Hence, Bob Dole in 1996 - just about any other young Republican could have beaten Clinton, even WITH Ross Perot. Trump actually BROKE the pattern, because I have no doubt 2016 would have gone to Jeb Bush.

But like him or not, he HAS been the party leader in the House for almost ten years - as minority or majority leader. And it HAS been the pattern - mostly - for majority leader to be made Speaker - in the DEMOCRAT party. And McCarthy has run before. I still don't know why he dropped out.

He has at least, the credentials. What I don't know is, can he be trusted to lead - or manage?
The cheat was on in 2016 for Clinton they just didnt cheat enough and they underestimated the votes that Trump would get ,but they made up for it in 2020

*Technically* they balanced it in 1998 (but not how I would measure it). What they’ve never been able to do is codify it in law, and part of that is because some members are worried it would stymie things in a time of emergency. Yeah. No, they just don’t want to do it.

States have made it law.

I’m willing to at least see them try.

We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgment of all wrong
They decide and the shotgun sings the song

I'll tip my hat to the new Constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again

Change, it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the fold, that's all
And the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed
'Cause the banners, they all flown in the last war

I'll tip my hat to the new Constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
No, no

I'll move myself and my family aside
If we happen to be left half-alive
I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky
For I know that the hypnotized never lie
Do you?

Yeah
There's nothing in the street
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are effaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Is now the parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight

I'll tip my hat to the new Constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again
No, no

Yeah
Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss
