Let us know what she replies with, if she replies.

Sometimes people are so hell bent on REACTING to something that they fail to fully comprehend what they are reacting to. She either didn't read the part about the vet work they have received, or she had/has no plans to vet any critter she gets so then they truly are FREE. I'd hate to be HER pet and need to go to the vet for care, she'd probably drop me off at the shelter or toss me outside to "live in the wild". I guess she doesn't know that there are laws about the Rabies Vaccine among pet license laws etc?

If it were me she sent that message too, I would have sent her an itemized list of exactly how much each of the proceedures would cost. They just do not get it that the critter needs spaying, and immunizations and that it costs MORE that what they are paying for the pet. Plus, there is an added bonus in knowing you are getting an FHIV, and FeLeuk free animal.

I somehow doubt she'd appreciate the great deal we get on the vet fees LOL

Exactly....... People are ridiculous. If you can't afford the vet care, you can't afford the pet. If you add spay/neuter, distemper shot, and Leukemia/FHIV test, it is going to cost more than $120.00. A couple came in to adopt a puppy a few weeks ago and asked me, "you can't go any lower on the adoption fee?" I knew right then and there that they would most likely not give the dog the vet care it would need.

In today's world, people are looking for FREE stuff. They try to talk my Husband down on the product he sells, and I just want to say, "When you go to Safeway for a gallon of Milk, do you try to talk the cashier down on the price"? When it comes to animals, they aren't cheap even if you got them for free. We have spent near 2 thousand this year alone on Vet Care for the dogs who came down with some weird stuff here, and there. That doesn't count their yearly immunizations either. They aren't due for that until December. It also doesn't include Flea, and Heart Worm treatments either. This is only two Dogs too.

$120 is perfectly reasonable, but I've seen them as high as $300.

We are merely trying to recuperate the vet fees we paid for the kitten/cat, doesn't even include food or litter at all. I can't afford to subsidize the adoptions for people to pay less.

We are faced with maybe only being able to take 1 or 2 of the remaining 4 kittens to HS Wednesday. One of my horses had a major injury that has cost a lot, and I just don't have the money to pay for the vet expenses and wait to be reimbursed.

Sometimes the cats don't get adopted and we have to eat those vet bills. Some become long term fosters like Poppy the elderly cat that is on insulin injections every day. That RX is expensive and he's getting 4 shots a day. Still others linger on and haven't been adopted and they remain in foster care a long time. At this moment we have 12 cats in foster care, 11 of which are available to be adopted (7 kittens and 4 adults).

It's not easy paying for the 5 long term fosters food, litter and vet care. Sometimes I literally eat boiled pasta with butter, salt and pepper as my lunch/dinner so they can get what they need.

if I had 4 of the cali/torti kitten I'd be fine - have had 4 inquiries on her already due to colors she has. Hey, maybe I can get the others dyed to match her colors? Shelly can do a great job coloring critters LOL yeah then adopt them all out - yeah .... lol j/k

Just to show what kind of responses we sometimes get to our ads for adoptable critters - this is the reply received from a CraigsList ad we placed for the kittens for adoption. The ad stated all the vet care the kittens have had (spay/neuter, Distemper Vac., de-worm, FIV/FELV test, etc), and that the adoption fee was to cover the discounted cost of the vet care:

Now you tell me, who's the fool here? I replied to ask if they had not planned to take their kitten to the vet? No answer yet.

Haha little does she know, there is no such thing as a "free" kitten. I speak from experience! What a moron.

Lets just hope she's young and just doesn't know any better yet? I was polite when I replied because it's possible she didn't read it all, or maybe she is young?

Kitten adoption update:

Gosh I keep getting contacted from people all interested in the cali/torti looking girl kitten and not on the others. I hate to have to pick 1 person out of many, although I am still waiting on Mary (lady I already know) to email me back. She was the first to express interest in her so only fair I give her first preference.

We are updating our adoption contract. Trying to make it simpler and less intrusive to people. I understand people not wanting to have to give up too much of their personal information to adopt a pet. We don't ask for the employer as we just don't think it has any bearing on an adoption. If they worked at Dog Fighters Training INTL - that is NOT the employer they would list - so knowing the employer doesn't seem to be valuable in determining adoption approvals. Do you all think asking to see ID from people is too much (and writing down the ID number i.e. driver's license), or should we rely on who they SAY they are? There would be a number of reasons why a person's ID address doesn't match where they say they live now (like me).

Some of you may recall the 1st guy who wanted to adopt Boxy? He handed me his business card (some construction company in DC). I just got a bad vibe as I dug deeper into his story and I didn't let Boxy go. I suspected he had dog fighting in his circle of friends after a bit of gut-feeling-driven detective work I did. Most people are NOT trying to pull a fast one, they are merely looking for another furry face to love on <G>.

We do try to do home visits at the time of adoption so that we are there as a familiar face when the pet goes into it's new home (even if its a repeat adopter or a person known to us already). It seems to make them feel better when they find themselves in a new place and see a familiar face, albeit just briefly.

Looking like we will only take 2 kittens to HS tomorrow. We don't have the funds to do 4. We will try to get some of these 5 kittens adopted to get some money back into the rescue fund so we can process the last 2 soon.

Just got word from Mary that her Father died the other day. She was planning for Stars to be his kitty as a companion. So I will go down the list in order of those interested to see who may be a good match for her. She is my absolute favorite due to her really cool coloring.

The buff boy we called Sun was just adopted! Cross your fingers that he gets along with their dog. The dog is a bit forward, and intimidated the cats easily, but I think that Sun can handle it best out of them all. We are hoping the dog and Sun play together and become buddies.

The reason there are so many kitties around is that these people get "free" cats and never get them fixed. Their cat has kittens and they repeat the cycle; offer them to people for free and the cycle repeats or just dump the kittens. It's sad.

(I know I'm stating the obvious. It's just frustrating)
