Labs for sale?

What's the difference between being outside in a fenced yard all day and being on a rope/chain all day? Aside from maybe the tangled/choking factor?

They get tangled a lot and are often neglected and left out there 24/7. Not always, but often. There's really not much to do on a run compared to running around a fully fenced yard. Plus, one of the biggest risks is that other dogs can come into an unfenced yard easily and attack the chained dog and they can't get away or easily defend themselves.

Either way, I thought it was pretty clear as to what I meant.
The official wording is "chained, tethered or otherwise tied to an inanimate object such as a tree, post or building outside of it's own enclosure".

Did someone say in this thread that they tied their dog up? Not sure where the comment is coming from

I have not had a fenced yard for a while now, and we walk our dog. BUT when he wants to run and play he has to do so on a lead rope - not the best for him to burn off energy. Hey maybe I should just drop him off at your house to play?

Thought this sounded like it. If not, then my bad.

I have horses so I have a tendency to say "lead" as in lead rope (although professionals in K-9 work also use the term "lead" as in "keep your dog on lead". So no he doesn't play tied out on a rope.

In order for my dog to run, we have to run with him LOL.

Although I have been known to put him on a cable tie (secured around a tree) when I am working outside for a while, and I want him to get some outside time.

I don't believe in all of PETA's beliefs, but I do believe in adopting, not buying. Don't worry I won't yell at you like a loon if you don't. Ever since I was 12 I have gotten black labs mutts from the animal shelter/humane society for pets and I have loved everyone like family. I also have found that these mutts have been very low maintenance and super friendly. Just sharing my experience.

While it may seem ridiculous, you'd be surprised at the number of cases and citations that come before us of animals being left out to starve, with imbedded collars, strangulations etc from being the sole way dogs are "cared" for. I'm sure no one here does that. Just thought I'd state the regulation change forthcoming.

The rescue we went to one time told they had 1 dog they felt would fit with our family.. They would not even let us look at the other dogs. But they were right, she fit right in with us. One of the best dogs we had. Last time we went through rescue they tried pushing a out of control 150lb dog on us. Even after I told them I would not be able to trust the dog around my daughter because he was so out of control they said well....you just need to work with him. Needless to say he did not come home with us. There are good and bad points about adopting. My dog I have now I purchased and she is perfect, my "doggy soulmate" as I call her. But I also found a older dog recently up for adoption that i must have. With this breed I know I will only have him a few years but he deserves a home with people who will spoil him.

Rescues that are run by knowledgeable people can be your best ally when you are looking for a dog. They can tell you the personality traits of the dog from their experience with it, and can guide you to a dog that will fit in good with your lifestyle. In GENERAL people who like watch TV a lot and don't go outside much would be a bad match for Jack Russell Terrier. BUT there are also differences from dog to dog in the same breed, so it takes well-versed rescue people to help make good matches.

I highly recommend Second Hope: secondhoperescue@comcast.net - if they don't have a dog that fits what you want, they can usually tell you who does. I hope you find another great dog to love.

I also do foster care for a rescue. Our first rescue was a angel..........perfect dog. Second one, oh my...........totally insane, lol. And they were the same breed. But that also goes for all 3 of my mastiffs I have had. Each one had a different personality and energy level.

I thought all mastiffs were lazy couch hogging grocery eating bums. Goes to show you I know nothing about that breed.

Nope. The one i have now will chase a ball all day long. She sctually throws my daughters soccer ball around by herself. She loves to run which has been a problem with her being on srtict confinement since her surgery.
