...teaching our 17 year old to drive a stick.

:roflmao:

Her car is D-O-N-E so he got her a 5-speed pickup to replace it. She's freaking a bit - we'll see how she's doing in an hour or so, then I'll probably go out and resume the lessons.

My son actually learned to drive a stick first thing, when he was 13 or so, in my old Jeep. I think that's best because going from a manual to automatic is no-brainer, but the reverse has a learning curve.

This is one ugly friggin' truck, too. I told him, at least we won't have to worry about her picking up any guys in it. It looks like birth control on wheels.

I agree, I still have no clue on driving a stick shift. If I'm stuck in one and no other way to get home, I'd end up walking. I really wish her luck in learning to drive stick shift!!! Everynow and then it comes up and its embarassing to not know how (no matter how hard I try).... but even more embarassing when I proove it to folks and try to play it off like I can operate something stick shift ... WTG on getting her a stick shift!!! Awesome!!! That forces her to learn how to drive stick!!!

...doing that Vrail headshake, slowly, side to side and a wry 'what are y'ah gonna do' look on her face. It seems to happen every time I get a great idea.

???

#2 has NO clue what is going on mechanically and I didn't expect she would. Balancing the clutch and gas is just making her head explode. On the plus side, she has grasped that clutch in, no brake, car will roll free/ stick in neutral, no brake, car rolls free. Probably 40 stalls. Maybe only 15- or so no stalls but pretty rough. She started and shifted 1st, then 2nd a couple times. Pretty rough.

All in all, starting from dead zero idea as of two hours ago, she could go somewhere if she had to and NO ONE got in her way.

....from laughing so hard as she stalled pretty much every conceivable way. She said she's glad I'm enjoying this so much but I suspect sarcasm. I also feel a tad seasick.
