My 14 year old son picked right up on shifting years ago. He was a natural. I still don't know how...:ohwell:

I rode a lot of dirt bikes as a teen, so I picked up using a clutch really quick.

My first car was a 1966 Beetle. You could let the clutch out at an idle and not stall it.

Of course I also got plenty of exercise push starting it (dayum 6V system).

My Dad taught me how to drive in his P210 Volvo one of his buddies bought over to the states from Sweden-it looked like a Checker cab or worse and was huge. I ended up hitting 2 cars on the way to take the test, I got lost and ended up driving around State Circle in Annapolis-my Dad never said a word. :huggy:

:lmao: The first automatic that I bought after years of driving a clutch..I was just having a good time driving it home and when I had to stop I totally forgot I had an auto and took my left foot and went to push the clutch in and just about put myself through the wind shield.....

:donethat: At least it's one of those hard lessons that results in you only doing it once. Scared the hell out of me.

I don't forsee me ever buying an automatic transmission equipped commuter car again (atleast not for me).
Good luck with that, they're getting harder and harder to find :ohwell:

When I bought my second car, I couldn't drive it because it was a stick. My mom drove it home for me, told me how to drive it and I be-bopped around the neighborhood until I got it....Took me 20 minutes to back out of the driveway, but after that, I was good.

Want an EASY car to learn how to drive stick in? Try a Ford Focus. My car has about the most forgiving manual transmission ever created.

I'd love to get another manual transmission car. The only reason I switched was I had blown out my left knee and shifting became horribly painful, especially after I counted having to shift over 80 times on my commute from Pax to Lusby.

I miss my little 4-banger 5-speed convertible that would get 40 miles to the gallon on the open road. :ohwell: I also didn't have to get the clutch worked on until it had over 140k miles on it. :yay:

....from laughing so hard as she stalled pretty much every conceivable way. She said she's glad I'm enjoying this so much but I suspect sarcasm. I also feel a tad seasick.

When my mom gets nervous she laughs and she laughed pretty hard when she was teaching me stick. My friend was the car to so all they pretty much did was laugh at me. :lmao:

This is one ugly friggin' truck, too. I told him, at least we won't have to worry about her picking up any guys in it. It looks like birth control on wheels.

HIGHLY doubt teenage guys will worry much about the truck...

I'll never forget learning to drive a stick. I couldn't get it into first, too much gas, too little, etc. - my Dad got pretty angry after an hour & he said F it, we're done. He gets in the passenger side, pops the emergency brake...then realizes he forgot to tell me hey, truck has an emergency brake. Gotta pop it BEFORE you try to drive.

Got it first try after that.
