Larry's Comic Place Doesn't Like Toddlers

Man, I'm not that old am I?

Whatever happened to "children should be seen but not heard"?

BTW, I do not mind well behaved children in public settings, but even a well behaved child has an "off moment" and it is up to the parents / care-givers to resolve the situation. If the parent (caregiver in the OPs case) is unable to act accordingly and hush their adorable sweetheart, then they should expect 1) rude comments, 2) evil looks and more.

From my experience, I personally dislike children at sit-down restaurants. I go out to relax / have a night off, and not have a child twist around and stare at me, ask me questions, scream and cry and whine, nor sit in their booth behind me and kick and bounce and kick and bounce, making my experience uncomfortable. Get a babysitter and enjoy your night out as well. I expect children at Chick-fil-a, McDonalds et al and deal with it, but shouldn't have to deal with it in other situations. They are not my children.

At times I've asked to be seated in the bar area of a restaurant, and even there there are children. What kind of genius takes their child to a bar area to wait for a table elsewhere or eat?
awwww now I feel like a retard  When we stay at embassy suites they provide a complimentery happy hour we always go and take the kids  But they also have snacks and virgin drinks special for the kids so I guess this doenst count...at least that is what I tell myself :lmao:
The same ones that let their heathens belly up to the bar on a cruise ship.

What ship were you on? That is crazy, the ships we have been on kids arent allowed in the bar areas, adult pools, spas, etc..

i agree, when you are in a resturant type setting and you have kids with you then you need to keep them under control, ie fairly quiet and content and not bugging other people. however there are places where you might take your kid (ie Wal-Mart or some other store) where the best option for you as a parent is to let the kid fuss. by doing nothing, not trying to reason with them, placate (spelling???) them, or remove them from the store, you show them that their fussing/whinning will not get them what they want. do this a couple of times and the behavior usually stops. but if you go running from a store every time a child acts up all you are doing is showing them that hey if you act up we can leave. thats not really teaching them how to act in public, thats just setting them up for future failure.

You're right, it depends on where you are and how bad they are acting up. I don't like a whiner it rakes my nerves, but reality is sometimes they do. Sometimes it's just out of boredom from sitting in the cart. He started it yesterday in the store, I distracted him and it stopped right away and he was fine.

OP was in a restaurant type setting though. Sorry I dont care where you are Wal Mart, Applebees, Red Robin, or Ruth Chris if your child is throwing a temper tantrum you leave. You take them to the bathroom. You dont let them scream and yell while people are trying to enjoy their food, drinks, shopping, etc...

I guess you would have been pissed when my niece blew her straw cover over the seat onto the old peoples table. When she went to apologize, the old lady told her it was okay because she does it too. :lmao:

This was at Ruby Tuesdays.

I was sitting in the bar area, and thankfully I've never seen a young child in that section of Ruby Tuesday's yet.

I tolerate children fairly well. I'm even known to babysit on occassion. I'm known to tutor kids. Heck I do volunteer activities that involve them.

In restaurants, I do answer the kids when they ask me questions. I do smile and wave back when they wave, but honestly, I'm out to dinner to relax, not worry if what I'm saying may have a rude word for somebody's little darling to overhear, nor to entertain some strangers children, nor to deal with any tantrums or listen to that screaming. I know that it is most likely your child and your sister's are well behaved in public - given my foggy memory and your mention of the apology. As I said before, it's up to the parents/caregivers to control the situation and you / your sister did.

But I do think that there are situations where the parents should get a babysitter instead of subjecting the unsuspecting public with their children, especially if they are unable or unwilling to control their darlings.

There was no adult pool at the time and the kids sat in the hot tubs for hours on end.
It was a Carnival cruise, the Triumph. Since then the ship has made an adult only area. The only place kids weren't allowed was the casino.

i didn't realize that a comic book store counted as a resturant type setting.

I agree. But five o'clock on a Satrurday at Ruby's is hardly a date time and place. (welll, maybe for some...)

Fortunately, our kids are very well behaved and way past the age of tantrums. My gurl conducts herself quite well at the Dry Dock and other finer dining establishments. :yay:

Wow that is just crazy! I havent been on Carnival before only Royal and Celebrity. They both have strict adult areas only which is really nice. That would annoy the hell out of me having kids in the hot tubs.

They serve food dont they? They had tables w/ chairs for patrons to eat at right? Sounds like a restaurant/cafe to me

Here's where I differ. I didn't consider a hot dog/ice cream shop a restaurant type setting. Whenever I've been by there, all I see is kids. No excuse for the crying meltdown but I didn't think it was that big of deal at the time because it was packed, no one was sitting down at the few tables they have and we were going to be in and out. We were not going to stay.

When I was there that day every table inside as well as the ones outside were filled w/ people eating.

I expect children at most hotels to be at the computer stations, in the pool, and at the free breakfasts and snack times. I just wasn't thinking children when I was thinking vacation such as at resorts nor was I thinking they'd be on cruises hanging out at the bar area. Even "kid-friendly" resorts, kind of lock those kids up asap as soon as they arrive and they are rarely seen as they are eating meals with other kids and participating in kid-friendly activities.

Okay then, it was Earth Day and there were little ones everywhere. As I said, we were only going in and right back out. I guess I thought that others who had little ones would understand the crying kid in the stroller for a few minutes.

I agree I was at Olive Garden for lunch the other day and some parent was letting their kid run around the restaurant like a maniac in the dining area. When the kid ran by my table I threw my drink on the floor and yelled at the kid for knocking my drink off the table.

Then the parent made the kid come over and apologize for spilling my drink. It was great. The dumb kid was forced to apologize for something they knew hey didn't do.

with that rationale that would turn every Baskin Robins into a restaurant, the A&W/Gas Station would be a resturant, Target would be a resturant, Wal-Mart would be a resturant.......
