When the Steel Pier burned down it was the death throes of Atlantic City.
All they had to do was rebuild it---better.

It was great, pay a small fee and stay there all day, 2 movies a stage show with real entertainment, the circus and divers, and the dance in the ballroom. I have fond memories of it.

The Casino's at Atlantic city just didn't cut the mustard.
You had to be right at the Boardwalk where the casino's were or face death in the rest of the criminal laden city.

I *really loved the Celebrity Apprentice! I watched it all the time and was always a Trump fan. It was always weird to me that I was, (because no one I knew was - even my dad didn't care all that much about him) but I really was always a fan.

My opinion was that they had NJ/NY/PA people dealing/running them. HUGE difference in the way dealers in Vegas handled customer as opposed to AC dealers. Vegas was always fun to gamble, AC not so much.

Tucker Carlson's laugh, though! :jet:

He just laughed out loud talking about Liz Cheney's smackdown and it was HILARIOUS. He's going to have a "Gloat-a-thon" when they get back from commercials...

My mother was a fan of him way back in the 80's. She died decades ago, but she thought of him as a playboy, smart and knew one day he would get into politics. When Trump said he was going to run, I felt like I knew so much about him and his family. He was very admired before saying he was going to run for office as a Republican.

You are right. and in Vegas if a table was crowded you were still welcome, in AC the nasty NY customers were really----nasty.

We were amused that Hageman's % margin of victory was larger than the number of votes Chaney received.

Historical sidenote: My maternal grandfather worked one summer back in the mid-30's helping to set up slot machines in one of the old Boardwalk casinos.

Slot machines have changed so much .
We used to put in a coin and pull the handle and watch the spinning dials.

Now you go to the cashier and get a chit then you go to the machine a d use the chit to bet. You can bet any number of ways, but you don't pull a handle you push a button. If you hit it registers as more plays for the machine, and the machine plays a little tune. When you are ready to quit you take what's left and go to the cashier and cash it in.

Not much fun IMO , but a lot of people leave their money there.

I still prefer the mechanical ones. It feels like you have a shot at it. When it's all electronic, there's a part of you that says to yourself - they've programmed this to NEVER really win. When it was mechanical, you knew that sooner or later, the odds were it would fall your way.

Not REALLY. Every machine is configured to make sure the house wins more than 50% of the time.

The electronic ones can be set so they reset themselves every time a new player starts.

Vegas is almost entirely corporate now, but back in the day if you spent any amount of time at the tables (whether you lost your shirt or made rent for the year) the pit bosses and management would bend over backwards to make you feel welcome. Want to play above or below the table min/max, just ask. Want a different dealer, or even your own table, sure thing. Comped meals, shows, and suites all the time.

In AC, despite supposedly being run by the same "groups", the attitude was always different. You were not a customer, you were a mark and you owed them your money.
