I don't usually have the side cases on my silver BMW,

:gossip: the one made by Suzuki

I thought about you the other day. On another bike site they had top 5 tips to prevent your bike from being stolen. I said #1 should be to buy a V-strom because it is aso damn ugly no one would try to steal it.

A guy from California (and other western states) switched to Triumph because he took it up the butt every time he went to the BMW dealer.
Three BWWs and over 150,000mi, so a dedicated fan, but just would take it any more.

Is it that way here, outrageous services charges?

That's the way is is at EVERY dealer

Buy a Honda and your 600 mile service where you basicly get an oil change and a dozen items "checked" runs around $300

A shop manual and some tools is always a good investment

You bet. The only work the shop does for me is replacing a tire, just because it's easier. But I still pull the wheel myself and hand it to them.

The R series are so easy to work on why would you WANT the dealership to service it?

I can do the oil, and valves in about an hour.. the only 1/2 way difficult task is changing the fuel filter, and it's not too difficult. Bleeding the ABS Brakes is a little tricky, but again not difficult after you've done it once or twice.

You can find directions, with pictures, online to do about anything..

Yeah the dealer wants a lot of money to do the services, but they also provide the parts and tools so you can do it yourself at much less cost.

You boys must be taken by the city slickers.

I've bought two new Triumphs in the last 12 months, one in Frederick, and one in PA.
My 500 mile checkup/adjustments and oil change was $160 the first time, (with 4 qts of Mobil 4T synthetic), and about $105 with the second bike, and 6 qts of 4T.

I had 2 oil changes on the frist bike before I traded, did the second change myself. I felt I got a good price on the oil at $10.50/qt. I had the shop manual for it.

My Rocket gets another change at 10,000 miles. I'm thinking I might do one sooner, but my dealer says no need. I'll watch the color.

I don't know what the other shops are charging.
The guy that swapped his BMW seems tickled with the Triumph service charges, but didn't mention any numbers.

You probably don't have a fuel filter on the new bike. I don't...or at least not one that can be changed.

BTW, I generally don't ride with the side bags on, so it wasn't me.

If they are like some newer cars, its integral to the pump, and meant to last the life of the pump. We are much better about fuel quality than we used to be.

You can't change your own oil or service your own bike and WE are the city slickers??

I think your helmet might be on too tight.

I think you need to improve your reading skills. Hope your driving skills are better.
I specifically mentioned that I did the second oil change myself.
The first time around I want the dealer to do his job and make sure there are no factory problems. When it went out the door it had 15 miles on it.

$20 for an oil change?
That wouldn't buy me a generic filter and quart of oil.
Those BMWs must be cheap ass things to run.

I hear the Russians liked that airhead so well they copied it for their Ural cruiser. 35 Hp, man, that's some machine.
I trust your actual BMWs do better than the clones.
Or are you riding one of those BMW crotch rockets I see around?
