Bone Marrow Drive

Hello,
I am Dylans Aunt and this is not a scam. He is currently at Childrens Hospital in DC and is very sick. Yes, we our having a Bone Marrow Drive for him and I wanted to explain a few things before anything gets misunderstood.

The test does cost $65 per person and we are raising funds to help pay for the cost of this testing. We have had several people tell us they are willing to pay the entire amount and we know others can not afford to do so. There will be a box there for contributions to be accepted to help pay for the cost of the drive for our family.

* You must be between the ages of 18 and 61 to be tested at the drive.
* They will ask you several medical questions to see if you are eligible to become a donor.
* They will prick your finger and take 3 samples of your blood to be sent away to be tested.
* Your name will go into the donor bank.
* If you are notified that you are a potential match, then you would come in for further blood work and to go over your entire medical history.
* If you are a match, then they would withdraw bone marrow from you hip bone. You will be sore and your bone marrow will reproduce itself. You are in and out of the hospital on the same day.

Our goal is to find a match for Dylan no matter what it takes and also to help others that are in need of a transplant. If you need any additional information or have any questions, please email me at funnycar@uzoom.net

They don't always do it that way. And you're forgetting the part where it hurts like hell.

If people just want to send a donation, where could it be sent to?

You have to be in good health to donate. If they cure the disease and you still have time to prep for the donation (it can literally take months), then you could donate.

Sleuth, I'm almost positive that having a different blood type would dis-qualify you, but you'd be better off to ask a Doc. than me. I lost my father to GVHD June2003, and I've done quite a bit of research on the matter. I also have access to a lot more current and respectable information thanks to the comm college's resources (which are suprisingly, fairly extensive).
I have A+ blood, and I know few people that have it. My dad has A-, which is even more rare. The other side of my family is all O+.

Since my blood type is fairly uncommon, I just wondered if I should even bother getting tested. If there's still a chance even with my blood type, I'll be more than happy to get tested.

....
I would think that its the rare blood types they'd need more of........:shrug:You figure they're getting all the normals out there.

But you could be a match for someone else in the database:shrug:

Are you serious? If so that is so sad, thoughts and prayers are with his family. :flowers:

He passed this morning but we (BAE) are continuing our fundraiser and as far as I know the Red Cross is still going to do the blood drive.
