Go to one of the foster homes and pick a child to do Christmas for as if they were your own.
Angel Tree has always been one of my favs!! Not to be confused w/Project Angel Tree.
Last year in my community, over 450 people were given food boxes containing kitchen staples and ingredients for a traditional Christmas dinner. Clothing and toys were provided for children under 18.

Nomo makes me do that for her and her kids every year. :ohwell: She chose "PS3 - A way to show your love" as this year's theme.
I was wondering if anyone was going to catch the irony of me posting that to Nomo..

There is also the "Christmas Caring 2006" project that is offered through Rec and Parks. They also help assist in providing toys and such for children and their families at Christmas.

Any idea if there is one in Calvert like this?

We used to "adopt" a family every Christmas by calling the Dept. of Social Services in Calvert. Now, I just "adopt" kids here at work from the Angel Tree program through the Salvation Army.

In the past, Just before the holidays I have donated money to either Calvert or St. Mary's Hospice - they normally have at LEAST one family that is going through hospice care that does not have the money to make what might be a last Christmas special for a family. Talk about appreciative...especially with everything else they are facing. Several years the hospice volunteers/workers have taken the kids out shopping to get something special for their mother or father or someone that is going through hospice care or shopped for them (vice versa).

It's not announced, but I know they do such great work for families in this situation that helps them help families during the holidays... Just a thought..

Back in the saddle
A couple of years ago my ex MIL decided to adopt a family. We all pitched in and brought a coupld of things the mother and children needed. The mom stopped by a couple of days before christmas to collect the gifts and was very thankful. I think ex MIL still keeps in contact with the mother, sending christmas cards and such.

No thank you, I haven looked at that site since last year and I always want to send something to all of those that ask (specially the ones that you can tell don't have it as good as some of the others) I think I'm going to do that as well this year. The boys love making drawings and including them in the boxes.

Discussed with my company. We are going to be shipping a few boxes to some deployed soldiers. If anyone would like to donate some small needed items but don't want the hassle of sending off your own boxes we'll glady take donations of items. (i.e. Deoderant, non perishable snack foods, small travel games, magazines, personal letters, etc)... We have very limited personel to handle the shipping of these boxes so we'd like to keep this small scale ( under 15 boxes). If you're interested please pm me.

(ps...this is serious and I swear items will be used for the soldiers and not for my kids  )

If you want, make a list of things you want to put in the boxex, I'd like to help out with some items.
I'd love to chip in with contributing items, and my time, also. Count me in!

I think I found my guys. It's a unit from Maryland. This one guy is the contact point for 10:

First of all I just wanna thank you for your support. It means the world to us. This is my first deployment and I gotta say I was just a little unprepaired. Me and my guys have ben noticeing some items that other people have to make their lives a little easier. Words can not explain the gratitude we feel for any help you can provide. Here are a few items that we could really use-

-Under armor shirts/ (black)or(sand)XL
-Under armor socks/ size9-12
-Occasionally our water supply runs out so some handy wipes would really help.
-Athletic shoes/ sixe 9, 9 1/2, 10 1/2, 10
-white ankle socks size9-12
-Boot socks
-Mach-3 razor blades
-Some of my guys are sure craveing fudge rounds, Im not sure what they are but...
-Boxer style underware

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanxs for the support and god bless.
