And what's with the flash drives this year, too?

BTW, my daughter already has her first field trip scheduled (7th grade). Cost is $12.50 and attendance is mandatory.

WTH do they do w/ all the kids who are low income and cant afford to pay for the fields trips? or gym clothes? locker rentals? etc...

Do we pay for that or does the school?

I don't have to deal with the locker rentals yet but I do know for a fact that the school does not pay for field trips. They are optional. If you cannot afford for your child to go, they don't go.

There was a blurb on the bottom of the permission slip that addressed "financial help."

As for gym clothes, I went to Target and bought a cheap shirt and a pair of shorts. I wasn't about to spend a ridiculous amount on gym clothes provided by the school.

I was told by my son that you had to have their gym clothes :eyebrow:

Maybe each school is different (don't know why). I asked last year and was told kids could wear anything that was appropriate. I picked up cheaper clothes in school colors and my daughter was fine w/it.

7th grade. They didn't have to pay to use the lockers last year, but this year the cost is $5.

I wonder if it's more a legal issue.

I remember there being issues with wall locker searches, and convictions resulting from.. The question at the time was who owned the locker, and who had the warrant/ authority to cut the lock to get into the locker.

If the school rents the lockers to the student the question of ownership has been resolved.

The school does and always will own the lockers.

I bought into the "locker timeshare ownership" program. My kid gets to use the locker whenever she wants during the week of November 2-6.

 I can remember sharing a locker in highschool because there were not enough lockers for everyone. My locker partners were always slobs and there was never enough room in the locker for both of our stuff. They needed shelves in them.
