Longhorn going North of Texas Roadhouse?

According to the Enterpise there is land north of it where they want to build a Longhorn Steakhouse. Generally I like more restaurants..but how many Texas themed steakhouses does a 5 mile section of highway need? I have no clue why a Longhorn would want to be so close to Texas Roadhouse. No matter where, Texas Roadhouse is always packed. Longhorn on the otherhand is subpar, and never as busy.

Where exactly is the new restaurant going?

They did.

They are back. They saw sales at Waldorf site and re-considered. Also had some better luck negotiating with the good ol' boys in Leonardtown. After all, they were told last time their building plan wouldn't pass as there were not enough windows on the sides of the building! That's critical - windows have more governmental impact than jobs, taxes, etc......but back to the point - Cracker Barrel is back and will be next to TX Roadhouse.

Well I am probably going to try it out for sure. I have a very close relative who is the manager of a LH restaurant in another state. She has even been asked to consider accepting the manager slot at a new store opening in a town close by to her. :yay:

She's gonna send me some complimentary guest coupons.

Just my two cents, FWIW, when in college, and this was 97-98 mind you, I opened a TRH in PA, and it was actually quality, all in house made intredients. The only thing packaged, was the kids mac and cheese? I like it there but I also like LH? Carry on :buddies:

IT all depends on how the place was ran. TRH tends to keep a tighter leash on their resturants than LH, so they are more uniform. I was very disappointed by the LH in Waldorf (as just about every other resturant in there too). But a good clean well run LH is just as good as a TRH.

Its just like there are "good" and bad McDonalds, its all in the management.

There are no good McDonalds.:barf:

If 235 isn't the ugliest stretch of land, outside of 8 Mile in Detroit, I don't know what is. If it wasn't for the Tackle Box I would avoid it completely. Sub par chain restaraunt, fast food chain, gas station, Big box store, traffic light. Repeat pattern with some odd office buildings, car stores and a few others for ten miles, and you have the blueprint for how the planners have created.

So you complain about everything except the most ridiculously over priced store on the road?

I thought the complaint was referring to the only local business still on the road. But that's just me..back when I owned Swann's, Ken made sure I could buy all my fishing tackle from him at the same price as the wholesalers would sell it to me for. So I bought it all from Ken. But I get your drift..who gives a crap, right? Let the chains rule. I'm far beyond old fashioned and obsolete.

I liked Swann's. I used to go there al the time.

Sorry, I don't get caught up in the chain/local business thing. I normally eat at one of the local eateries when I go out, but if I like something, or it's convenient I'm going to go that route. I buy most of my stuff on amazon prime. I probably would get my groceries on there If I could.

Yeah, I would rather support the local business owner at the Tackle Box, than the cheaper stuff at Wal-K-MartDicks, that have no connection to So. Md, just like I would rather eat at a local family owned place than a Texas Road Barrell Hut 7 days out of 7. Call me old-fashioned

This is such a BS argument. Most people want services. That requires.....imagine this....stores and restaurants. Now we have this thing called zoneing. The zone in St. Mary's designates 235 as the development district where such businesses can exist. So when you say...."OMGZ...this road has a lot of stores".....you are really saying that our elected leaders zoning plans are being followed.

Really...what are the other options? Spread the stores throught the county? No one wants that? No stores at all? As much as some old timers would like that...it makes the community less desirable to live in. Who wants to drive to Waldorf and get robbed, or even further to Annapolis to buy a decent TV or sneakers.

I always laugh because people moan so much over development. Seriously, if you are that worried, move to Ridge or St. Clements Island, or one of the many corners of the county where at 7PM if you need something you are driving 20 miles. Having 2% of the county have stores and services pretty much everyone here uses is not killing anyone.

As for the "buy local" talk...this is a Navy transient town. The people who live here are only here for a few years, and just for familiarity will flock to chains that they know from where they live before. 15 years ago you had Kmart, Walmart, and Applebees...and local businesses could survive because there were no other options. Now with more chains here, local businesses have to work harder to get customers, and have high standards to keep them. While I am down with buying local, I am not gonna subsidize someone's subpar business because they are the little guy. McKay's always smells, and I see way more outdated food on their shelves than anywhere else..so I shop at Giant. I have eaten at Lenny's twice and it beyond terrible..so I am not going back. Places like Boomerangs and Rudy Duck however have repeatly served good food and we go back.

The "coming soon" sign says Longhorn Steakhouse.

:yahoo: Only because my niece is a manager for a Longhorn down south and I can get freebie coupons! I'll have to go try them out at least.

Looks like a lot of other places to me.

My only gripe is how they did it, why does every store need a light.

Ever been to Fredericksburg VA? There is a HUGE shopping area there called Central Park right off I-95 and there is only one light off the main road into the place, sure you can't see every store from the main road but there is no congestion because of it. There are probably more stores and resturants in this one developement than in all of St marys county.

235 is awful, no other way around than that. I never give directions to "outsiders" that takes them through it. But my other complaint is the quality of establishments. 25 fast food stores and cruddy chain restaraunts, that people get excited for. Really, life in So Md is going to improve because of a Longhorn Steakhouse? Red Robins are the best place for dinner? Cracker Barrell rocks? They all suck.
