I used to get gas at a local station called Cahill Tire in Bath. It was kind of a run down place owned by the Cahill family since gas was invented. Old man Cahill actually pumped the gas there. He was about 80 and sat on a chair out by the pump. When you pulled up he pumped the gas for you and liked to chat. It was 3 years before I learned anough "Mainer" to understand a damn word he said.

I'm thinking about Montana or someplace......

Colder and very barren. The Rockies are beautiful there. A Labor Day weekend brought night time temps of below freezing and bears have crosswalks because they are everywhere:jameo: I found it to be the most openly prejudiced place I have visited.

Pete and I were discussing Moxie earlier in the thread. Think of a 16 oz bottle filled with equal parts Dr Pepper and Battery acid.

Oh, I've had it.. once.

Dad's family is from Northern NH.. they still sell moxie at the local general stores up there.

But I do like that description.. was trying to think of how to describe it.. Dr Pepper gone bad?? Dr Pepper factory reject?? But I think the 1/2 & 1/2 nailed it.

N.H. and Vermont have the same conditions and there is still 2 feet of snow piled on the sides of my sister's driveway. It is a bit unusual this late in the season but it does push mud season and black fly season deeper into Spring :lmao:

You should go because the region is very beautiful, different than here and everyone should see as much of the U.S. as possible. Just ignore the slight exagerations about some of the lesser problems one might encounter.

I have been to Nasha NH....very nice area and some great old buildings but just not my cup of tea. I am sure that Maine is beautiful also....just not my cup of tea either. I was raised a Navy brat and we spent most of our time in the south......guess I just understand where they are coming from and I hate SMOW!!!!!!
Nothing like sitting on a front porch swing drinking sweet tea and knowing all your neighbors........and having a friendly conversation with just about anyone around........

Nashua is a city, and not a fair representation of NH.

You don't truly experience New Hampshire until you get North of Concord, and North of the White Mountains.

There are some places in the South that could be considered "like NH", like between Nashua and Keene.. mountainous, and rural.. but generally all of Southern NH has been overrun with M#######s that have moved there becasue they LOVED the lifestyle we had, but over the years have changed it to be JUST like where they came from. Just another Liberal mecca.

Almost all of Southern NH can be considered Northen Mass.. chock full of commuters.

You're absolutley right. When I was a 16/17 I worked on a farm a couple of summers before school went back into session in Mass. It was along Rte 16 just North of Milton(?)/Rochester. Wasn't just a different state. It was a different country. And I'm sure all those "Ma$$holes" screwed it up.

Owned a house up that way.. in Rochester, just off of Rte 16..in the mid 90's..

Was still NH then, but it was changing quickly.

Milton.. now that was DEEPwoods, mountain folk up there.
