Used to spend a lot of time up in Kennebunkport back in the late 80's- 90's. Pretty quiet, laid back area. Though I was there working, not vacationing, so I can't talk too much about what's in the area as far as entertainment. We used to stay at a rustic place called the Village Cove Inn. MamaTutu's right - lots of seafood, for sure. Beautiful victorian homes - some so ornate they're like the top of wedding cakes. K'port is definitely worth at least a daytrip.

We went to Maine in July about 5 years ago for an anniversary trip. Have a friend who retired there, so we headed his way. He and his wife have a place up there and that's where we stayed -- Blue Tulip | Garden Boutique, Landscaping, Lodging | Tenants Harbor, Maine. Very nice!

We visited lots of lighthouses and parks while we were there. They were having a heat wave (highs around 80) when we were there, and they were all scrambling to find window AC units! We assured them that we were quite comfy in the attic room we rented with no AC.

Absolutely beautiful scenery, but we wouldn't want to live there. Definitely "buggy" with mosquitos the size of the Robins here. The Marshall Point lighthouse in Port Clyde was wonderful! Most folks would recognize it as the furthest place east that Forest Gump ran!! Welcome to Marshall Point Lighthouse.

Reds gets a paragraph, detail, and 2-5 get an address.

I'm from Maryland. We deal with the same thing here. 'BEST' crab cake, year after year. People like to argue the difference between 9.8 and 9.85. You go stand in line at Reds. I'll have eaten three different ones at three different places by the time you sit down with your first. You'll be happy you had THE best, 9.85. I'll be happy I had three really good ones. 9.8, 9.7, 9.6...*burp*. We ate fresh lobster from the 'best' lobster pound around (ie, the one closest to us) for dinner three nights running and only stopped eating because we ran out. We never had our fill. We never had our fill of lobster rolls either and I forget how many different ones we had.

Best, second best, 10th place. 20th or honorable mention. Hell, if some kid had a lemonade and lobster roll stand, I'd get one of each. Eating lobster IN Maine, up and down the coast, that's #1!

It ain't 'laid-back' no more. On a Saturday, you can walk from Federal Jacks to the big church across the bridge and up the hill faster than you can drive.
Busy place that screams "MONEY".

And it is worth seeing, as you say, especially the big houses.

Freeport for the shopping
old orchard beach is a cute little town for the beaches
portland has some neat little shops
love going to the prison in Thomaston and shopping in the gift shop. It's a shame how talented they are and ended up in prison. The stuff they make is absolutely beautiful!
Bradbury mountain state park near brunswick. Loved taking the kids and hiking up the mountain trails. It was a pretty simple hike the kids could handle. The views from the top were breath taking considering it's not mount Everest!
you have to go to the shore and meet the locals just coming in from the water with their shrimp and lobsters. You can buy them right there on the dock. So much fun.
the lobster shack for dinner. Not fancy but the best seafood you'll eat.
bar habor is a huge tourist destination. Be prepared. The water was never warm enough for me.

Spring is mud season. Summer is bug season. Fall comes early. The further north you go, you may still require a light jacket in the evening even in august.

Not exactly. Good possibility we shared a ride or two in the day, my seat was probably a little forward of yours :buddies:

If I remember correctly, we used to land at Pease. I'm pretty non-scared when it come to flying, but I always shut my eyes tight and clenched the armrests until we were on the ground when we went there. Pretty frickin scary when you think it was a plane with no windows. F'n hate C130s.
