Unless you had some confused people shooting each other - still I sure wish they had Mall Security or somebody. What was supposed to be this guy's reason? 20 years was too long to have been alive or something?

Most - no... ALL - gun owners that I know are trained in their usage and have mucho respect for their weapons and their capabilities. And no matter what they would not fire their weapons without a clear shot at a well established target. And definitely not into a melee of people. Ever.

I highly doubt that it would turn into the gunslinging free-for-all you're implying.

I guess he was despondent over loosing his career job at MacD's. This kid definetly had to be a loon!!
And all you idiots that will want to call for more gun laws, just what would more gun laws do? This nut was already breaking a bunch of laws, including murder, do you think a few more would have stopped him?

Westroads Mall, IIRC, is in one of the better parts of the city. And the worst part of Omaha, makes the best part of DC look like a war zone. Not the type of place you'd expect to have to worry about it. Hell, I don't recall seeing one rent-a-cop in the place.

If people learn anything from some of these latest shootings it should be, it doesn't matter if it appears to be a safe place, a "gun free zone" or a place not known for crime. Those are the places the bad guys will pick because they are soft targets and they know that.

How extremely sad. To be "broken" at his young age. Wow. BTW I wasn't really 100% serious about it turning into a "gunslinging free-for-all", but I don't know for certain somebody would not have accidentally hit someone else aiming for him. Accidents do happen. Mostly I wish somebody could have helped this kid before he got to this point in his life but I guess sometimes you just can't help someone.

This mall shooting got me thinking...

Considering this incompetent piece of crap killed 8, possibly 10 people, all before cops could respond (despite the amazing response time of 6 minutes), what are we going to do when a squad of trained Terrorists orchestrate a coordinated attack on a mall or school using explosives and military grade firearms ala Beslan School Massacre?

One deranged bit of animated pig feces killed 30+ people at Virginia Tech with a couple handguns. What would the outcome have been like if the shooter was not only evil but sane and methodical as well?

Fact of the matter is we as a nation are terribly soft, I'm not saying it as an insult, just an observation. These psychos are the bottom of the barrel. The least competent, least rational, least intelligent ones out there. What happens when someone, or someones, who has planned, trained, and has a fanatical death wish devotion to whatever their cause is starts a slaughter?

Unless cops can teleport they'll never be fast enough. If we as a society don't harden up and start taking more responsibility for our safety, CCW being a prime step, we're screwed. It is the only course of action to this type of threat that doesn't get us screwed as the other most likely response is to bleat for the Gov to take away all our freedom in exchange for perceived security.
