Man alone in the children’s section

Because no men in the world would ever buy a book as a present for his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends kids, or anything.

The problem, of course, is that he wasn't looking at books when he was told to get lost. Had he been actively browsing/shopping he wouldn't have attracted attention. So I think we can safely say that Dr. Perv wasn't buying a present for a young person.

This is not to say that he didnt want to give something to some child.

I still agree with the policy. Children have to be protected, and if that means I have to feel uncomfortable when I walk into the wrong place alone, then so be it.

I bet if he would have had a child with him at the time, not a single word would have been said.

Like Vrai said, if men werent such perverts overall, this would not even be an issue.

And I think that's a bull#### thing to say, as bigotted and sexist as anything I've heard.

How about this: Women, overall, can't drive so all ####s should just stay off the road, go back to their kitchens and fix me a sammich.

How about that? I bet if I honestly endorsed that ignorant bull#### opinion, I'd have every female in the known universe coming out of the woodwork to berate me for such nonsense.

Sad thing is, they are, and to be honest I dont have a problem being told to stay out of childrens only areas if Im not bringing a child along.

I do. I have a serious problem with it.

I have 3 kids, and I sometimes like to surprise them with goodies. There happens to be a toy store near my office. Occasionally I'll go in there and buy them stuff - naturally without them, or it wouldn't be much of a surprise. Anybody who gives me the stink eye for doing this is cordially invited to french-kiss my fat hairy ass.

Unless I'm doing something wrong, I don't think I should be treated like a criminal.

Ever.

So are we changing the parameters from "Men shouldn't go into children's only areas" to "Men behaving suspiciously in children's only areas should be evacuated like so much fecal matter".

Because, yeah, if some guy wearing a raincoat with a bulge in the front, is standing by the Curious George books toting a paper bag full of tootsie rolls and smarties, I can see eyebrows being raised at this.

There's a huge difference between "Men" and "Men behaving suspiciously".

And this.

I've always hated being punished for the crappy things other people do.

And now that I have children, I get a bit resentful on those occasions when I take the kids with me somewhere and people are either A. Shocked that I spend time alone with my kids, B. Assume that I need help and can't handle them, or C. Both. Yes, folks, dads can be parents, too.

Except for fixing up my daughter's hair. I have no clue. She'd look like she was raised by wolves without her mother's input there.

How many times has B&N bounced other patrons for talking on their cell phones? Was LaQueefa, Vontay, Juan, or Maria told to move along and escorted out? Wanna bet NO to that.

No, we cannot safely say this person was in the chidren's section with ill intentions.

I guess "innocent until proven guilty" doesn't matter anymore...

The tagline was: "Guilty of driving while being black."
Now it is : "Guilty of being a man in the children's book section."

I'm guessing the next step is to create a mandate where a father can't be at home alone with his daughter, uncles will be forced to wear electric shock collars when their niece visit and Grandpa? Hell, we're just gonna have to strap him in the chair and flip the switch.

OMG, when Mrs. Tox finally bounces you can I have first dibs? While I am a very good driver, I don't particularly enjoy it. But I DO enjoy making sandwiches and cooking in general. SO! You drive me everywhere I want to go, and I will keep your belly filled.

Deal?

How about "Guilty of Being a White Male" that would cover everything.

This guy wasn't just bounced for being in the kids section. He wasn't there shopping, he was hanging in the kids reading area talking on his cell phone. A patron apparently felt uncomfortable with the guy being around her kid and complained. The employees assessed the situation and asked him to leave. I really don't see a problem with that.

You can't really quantify that feeling you get when it comes to strange people being around your kids, but I do believe that it is something that most parents are able to sense. We do have a subconscious ability to read body language and other clues. We don't know why we feel like someone is a threat, but we do feel it.

The guy was being respectful and talking on his phone in an area where there was no one. I hardly see that as a reason to make this man feel like he did something wrong.

As a male, I think my opinion is pretty much valid on this one.

I personally would not find it offensive, or would I make a scene should I be asked to leave a childrens area that I was in without a child.

Being a grown up, I understand that sometimes, the safety of children might just trump my ego.

I still say that its a good policy. You cant tell if Im a pervert just by looking at me.
If you dont know me, you would be an idiot to let me around your small children.

Personally, I shouldn't have to feel like I did something wrong, when I didn't, and I'd fight tooth and nail to prove that.

There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible to live without breaking laws. – Ayn Rand

I suppose that is your right
as it would be my right

but, as I said, I would prefer being put in that situation over increasing the danger for children.

Its really not a black and white world we live in.
Just because I would not molest a child is not reason to think the next guy in wouldnt either.

You can insult me all you want if the end product is improved safety for the kids.

I would however be upset if I was asked to leave Victoria Secrets, And yes I do know its creepy when I sit in front of the dressing room with my number cards rating the women that try things on. But I dont care.
