I met my wife online. We've been married coming up on nine years.
I understand that part of the peculiar nature of dating online is, you don't have the ability to "weed out" those not well suited to you before you go out. You can usually size up a date pretty quickly in a few minutes, and for the one doing the asking - sometimes you don't bother to ask. You know already, it ain't going to work out for you.
I sure had my share of those, dating people online. I must have dated half a dozen where I knew within seconds - I'm not going to enjoy this one that much. While my first date with my wife had its moments - mostly on her side, because *I* certainly wasn't the ideal date that night - I felt a connection right away.
But I approached dating online with a ferocity I have rarely had since, for anything (except maybe adoption). I had a former gf coach me, encouraging me and helping me through the mistakes and pitfalls of dating complete strangers.

That said, Match.com did absolutely no good for me, as did a couple other sites (I joined about 8 or 9 of them). I don't know why, but nothing on their site ever panned out for me.

And you know, in all the years I've been on this forum and all its predecessors - I have never met someone in person that "happened" to be here, online. As in, oh, you post on the forums? What's your name online? Nothing like that, never.
Well maybe that one time. But no, it doesn't happen. This place ain't as popular as I like to think.

I think of it as shopping without a list - you come home with all sorts of weird things you didn't mean to get. Whereas if you go out with at least an idea of what you're looking for, you don't end up bringing home crap off the sale rack that doesn't fit and is the wrong color, but hey! It was only $5!
This is why women (and men, I suppose) are always trying to "change" their mate - they didn't get what they wanted in the first place.

Yes. And that's fine. Just to me they go together, like cinnamon on apples or the butter on my grits. Also, both are seasoned...know each other. They both are good people.
Trying to meet a new....especially this day and age....not easy. Most men are gross.
