Go somewhere and generate a custom LIKE smilie for us to use. Something with 'I like this post' on it. I know it won't show in message box,
but if seen by poster on their post I know it will still be just as appreciated. Just a thought.

Take your pick:

:yay: or :boo:

I was thinking custom, to be used here only for liking a post. Maybe a stamp of approval generator somewhere to make one? Something like a PAID stamp used on bills, with LIKE on it. The others are standard and used for many things. I was thinking along the lines of one thats only for that purpose. Oh well, it was just a thought, everyone misses it so much.

I'm confused... that IS the purpose of posting any of those positive smilies... what's another smilie going to do that those don't? If you really want to represent that you are specifically pushing the like button just post ":like:" and absolutely everybody who sees that will understand.

:yay: <-----IIRC, this smilie was used by many of the posters to represent that they (we) "liked" something said in the post. To be very specific and like just one comment or word, you can actually just highlight/quote that portion and type the :yay:

I *liked* the *like* button, but a lot of times, I would only *like* specific parts of a post or I would *like* a specific part of a post more than the other.

Highlilght/quote and the :yay: smilie applied to that situation more than the *like* button.

I think posters just "got used" to the *like* button, and it will take a litte while to get used to not having it. Once you get used to typing what you like instead of clicking a button, it's really not all that hard and it's more better. :bann: (If I do say so myself)

Would it hurt you if we had a custom one?

Please don't be confused, its not hard to understand. No its not necessary or needed. It was just a thought on a fun thing someone who does that sort of thing might do for the forum. Not a matter of anyone understanding or not the reason for any of the other smilies or that ':like:' isn't sufficient. It was just a thought, no more no less. Sorry if it confused you.

What is wrong with adding a new one? Why is everyone acting as though I were trying to abolish all other smilies. Another addition to the facelift the forum has had is all I proposed. Again, I never said it was nessasary it was only a thought.

We (those who replied) are only posting our thoughts in regard to your question. There used to not be a "like" button, and we used all those aforementioned smilies to accomplish the *like*.

I don't care either way if the "like" button comes back or not, I am only explaining how I might be able to handle the same action without it.

Just to be clear, since the beginning of this thread and before I have still been liking posts. Using several ways of doing it, available smilies and just *Like*... Like I said a new one was only a idea. Not a big deal or because I figured there was no other way to do it. Adding a new one wouldn't have obligated anyone to use it. Thank you all for your replies.

Why do you end every single post with :coffee: ?

I always have, since I joined. Hello my name is Deb and I'm a coffeeholic. Its a thing on the net and in real life I'm known for. So the smilie is like signing Deb to a letter, just a thing.
