Dropped them after their signal would not work with my 1 year old TV. WEnt Verizon for home phone, DirecTv with the Genie boxes and we are loving it! Watch DirecTv on the ipad or iphone as well. Plus can live stream TV anywhere in the world via internet.

Still have Metrocrap for internet, alas, they do have a monopoly.

Yes, you can have monopolies today. Metrocrap must pay the Commissioners very handsomely.

....and that's why I'm dropping TV service.

Redskins season is technically over and anything else I watch I can get from Hulu , Netflix or online.

..... except American Horror story :cds: haven't found that yet

I haven't had a TV or cable in quite a few years.

Is anyone else dealing with issues with Metrocast's forced "upgrade" to digital cable? We can't watch a program without getting the black screen of no connection every single evening. Don't know about the daytime because I'm not home then. It is really annoying to keep getting interrupted during the programming and no improvement seems in site. And it goes it waves. UGH!!! Seriously, not interested in such a deficient product being foisted off on all of us.

My parents in Mechanicsville have the issue as well. Throughout the day, the new 14-x and 99-x channels get very pixelated or go away completely, but the rest of the channels are rock solid. My uncle in Leonardtown has the same issue with the same channels.

It certainly seems like it's a widespread problem.

I'm curious to know if your issues are mainly centered on certain channels as well.

I am totally pissed off that I can't use my VCR's anymore! I have 5 TV's and only one is "digital ready" and the rest require the boxes...but they do not work! Hard to wrap my mind around the 84.12 etc. stations, and not good ol channel 4!.. I always thought that monopolys were outlawed in the 20"s?? What ever happened to that? And no I do not want dish or Direct TV! I will live with this...but STILL do not like it!!!

what's a VCR?

They have the cable franchise, but there are options for internet.
Satellite, dial up and DSL might be available.

As far as what they pay the commisioners :killingme

I spoke to the head of the cable committee before the last renewal (rebid).
They were the only bidder, if it weren't for the sub-tier providers like Metrocrap there wouldn't be cable tv in St. Mary's county.

Take it for what it's worth, what I was told was that the major cable companies, like Cox and Comcast wouldn't touch it. There isn't enough households to make it worth their costs to upgrade the system to their (corporate) standards.

I'm experiencing my first non-network night in a long time

Other than the NFL and some soccer matches I don't think I am missing much. I go to a friends house to watch Ravens games. About 15 of us meet there to watch football. I always bring something good to eat and some beverages and all is good. During warm weather I sit outside on the patio and read a book. Ice down some beers, get the lanterns out and enjoy the quiet. If I am not out there I try to fish or go for a ride on the Triumph.

Deregulation with out real competition.

it has nothing to do with deregulation, it's a system, the company that owns and operates the system has to pay for the infrastructure. It doesn't work in a market like St. Mary's unless they have the sole rights to a significant portion of the households. But that's cable, you still can get broadcast tv as well as satellite - which does have competition.

If were not for government subsidy (paid for by taxes on your phone and electric bills, there would not be phone or electric service in large portions of this country. If you want to know where there would be issues, check the AT&T Wireless availability maps - where it ain't blue is where the population density does not meet the levels to make service affordable.

Sounds likemany of you need updated wiring in your homes, or at the very least, get an amplifier where the main service comes in.

Metrocast put all new wiring in from the box out at the road into my house about 3-4 years ago.

because when they "improved" their system our home wiring instantly degraded

If they are using higher bandwiths than your cable can handle, or you only have up to 900MHz splitters, yes, the things people are complaigning about can and will happen.

Quad shield RG6, and 1100MHz splitters is what everyone should have.

Did they measure the dB loss?

The number of splitters also can affect signal. (You'll notice "-3.5dB" on the spitter outputs, depending on how many outputs it has)

New thing for me tonight

I'm trying to access on demand because the programming on how many channels is ####

It keeps showing "wait 5 minutes and try again"

They did and said it was good, I only have two cable outlets in the house so there is a single split. Of course the problems are intermittent and when they came out it wasn't acting up but FX has problems every time there is something on it that I want to watch.

Does it get worse when it rains, or when the ground is wet?

It usually happens that way. It freezes or pixelates right as a hail mary is thrown in the football game also.

None of those except DSL are options for gamers, and given DSLs distance from the substation limitations, not many folks outside of population centers will be able to hook into DSL.

I haven't turned my TV on in over a week. Not even sure why I subscribe to cable.

I love Texas Road House
I'm dropping their cable today.

Have Rokus for all the TVs, upgraded to the Ultra internet and got a Basic Talk phone set up from Wal-Mart and I'm on the wait list for Aero

Live sports are the only thing keeping me from cutting the cord. Once I can stream live sports from all the major networks I'm done with cable.
