being selfish...
This guy says you're right.
Ryan Kelly, owner of the Park Cafe a few blocks from Wilbanks' house, which gave out coffee and sandwiches to searchers, said he was glad Wilbanks was alive and healthy.

"But that being said, this is one of the most selfish and self-centered acts I've ever seen. We saw her parents, and you could see the anguish in their eyes. It was terrible," he said.

It's "All about me" syndrome...she probably didn't think for a second how her antics would affect her loved ones, she was only worried about making daddy mad by backing out of the wedding, so she ran. :loser:x2

Okay, what the hell:

I feel sorry for her. I have this picture of some poor woman whose parents have money and run her life. I'll bet they picked the husband for her and planned the whole wedding. She didn't know what to do and she's been dominated her whole entire life, so she ran.

The waifish look, the forced smile in all the pictures.

At least she didn't kill anyone.

Oh don't give me that. :bonk: You can see it too - I know you can.

You have to admit - running off like that was a pretty extreme measure. A normal woman would have simply said, "You know what? This isn't working for me" and bailed. Or gone ahead with the party and divorced him later.

She was obviously afraid to tell her groom and parents that she wanted to call it off. It's completely plausible that she knew they'd browbeat her into going through.

Of course, another good scenario is that she was just too immature to do the grown-up thing, so she ran off like a little kid.

So let me get this straight....if you lived in that area and had a family issue at this same time, you'd be OK w/ less time being spent on your case because 1/2 the police were busy looking for a spoiled brat?

I didn't say that - I just said I felt sorry for her. I doubt she realized the consequences of this little bit of impetuousness, but that doesn't matter.

Maybe the public humiliation will be enough because I doubt there's anything she can be charged with. Maybe she'll get it for lying to the police, when she told them she'd been kidnapped. But it's not against the law to ditch your fiancee and go to New Mexico.

Actually, (at least here in Maryland, but I'd expect other states as well), making a false report to police is against the law.

I cannot understand why anyone would want to down-play what she did. The way she chose to deal with it was hideous.

:yeahthat:

If I was that guy, I'd call off the wedding myself after her little psycho stunt.
