She deserves to be drug through the town square ...publicly humiliated...

Even better, she has been nationally humiliated for what she has done. :yay:

Doesn't it strike you as odd that the media is spending so much time and energy on this? Must be a slow news day elsewhere in the world. It seems like we are now living in a time where the press specializes in micro-views of things, blowing little items up to be larger than life. I mean, I'll grant that the woman did a monumentally stupid and ultimately selfish thing (which according to this morning's news may have been very carefully premeditated), but how big is this story in the grand scheme of things? Not very. I'd like the media to spend more time on things that really matter and less time on sensationalism. Are we as a nation so bored with the issues of the day that this becomes more interesting?

If I was that guy, I'd call off the wedding myself after her little psycho stunt.

Being compared to Scott Peterson can't be a bright spot in your life. Marrying into an obviously controlling family doesn't help either when the uncle says they are anxious to talk to her about their issues and the father unilaterally says the wedding is rescheduled.

Not quite off topic but why would the police object to being video taped while doing a lie detector test or being on neutral ground? I think the guy had some legitimate requirements.

I always think of the postage. When I was a kid (19) my b/f and I had a fairly large wedding planned. Of all the costs that pissed off my dad, the postage irritated him the most. We canceled the wedding about 3 days AFTER the invitations had been sent.
How much was it to use the pony express anyways?

No. We, as a nation, are so stupid that this is what we understand. Talk about Social Security reform and watch the eyes start glazing over. Talk about "Desperate Housewives" and watch the conversation get animated.

It's just the way.

The news guys have ads to sell. The only way they can sell ads is by getting eyeballs tuned to their show. Since more Americans are interested in flesh-eating viruses and runaway brides than health care reform, that's what the news dudes focus on.

My neighbor has a "Desperate Housewives" party every Sunday night and women from all over our town come and sit in their jammies, eat junk food and watch.

I didn't have one taker for my proposed "McLaughlin Group" party. :frown:

Wilbanks, DeLay, Social Security and all the other trivial crap should be shelved and Congress should find out what is wrong with the weatherman.

I cannot understand why anyone would want to down-play what she did. The way she chose to deal with it was hideous.
:yeahthat: IMO, it's akin to lying about being raped.

I think she snapped and made a very bad decision, that she probably wouldn't have made under normal circumstances. :temporaryinsanity:

But I am NOT saying it was OK, by any means.

Okay, what the hell:

I feel sorry for her. I have this picture of some poor woman whose parents have money and run her life. I'll bet they picked the husband for her and planned the whole wedding. She didn't know what to do and she's been dominated her whole entire life, so she ran.

The waifish look, the forced smile in all the pictures.

At least she didn't kill anyone.

Why do you feel sorry for someone who intentionally broke the law?

She didn't break any laws until she lied to the cops about being kidnapped.

I feel sorry for her because I have this idea she was in a situation that she didn't know how to get out of. I think she was scared to tell her parents that she didn't want to get married because she was afraid they'd get mad. So she took off.

I'm not excusing her immaturity - this would have been a lot easier to take if she were some 18 year old kid.

So do you also feel sorry for her fiance, family, friends and the people who put their daily lives aside to search for her, fearing she was dead, only to find out that she was too immature to deal with problems like an adult?

We are not certain about what was going on in her home-life. How could we know that? We are not a part of her family. However, she still broke the law, and because of her immaturity, law enforcement was utilized in a situation where it was not needed, and tax dollars were used which could have been utilized elsewhere, perhaps causing other legitimate causes to receive less attention.

I understand your point of view, but I do not agree with it.

I wanna see a picture of her new hairdo.
She supposidley cut her hair because she didn't want to be recognized (and I guess foil her plan of being "missing"). LOL! She probably stood out like a sore thumb.

"Look there's that girl who is missing - and her hair is all choppy and cut weird!"
