Mission BBQ

The ribs at Leonardtown Grille are great, and the ones I had at Retriever's last week were better than L'Town Grille.

Doubtful. They flocked to Cracker Barrel despite the posts on here about the bad service and running out of food.

I have been there twice since they opened. I thought the service was outstanding, they made me feel like I was their most important customer. I think their food was outstanding. I tried different things on thier menu both times and was very impressed.

You started this saying you want to eat at a place where it is not a chain and they are human. Of course you seemed to have to have backtracked and just made it about chains. You can eat where you want, but this part of the rabble will be eating at the successful business who appreciates me. I've been to Smokey J's and sometimes they get busy and I feel like I am a burden to them. I am going to eliviate them of that burden and will be going to Mission BBQ who give back to community and honor my country every day at noon. The nasty evil chain that they are.

I might. I love BBQ, although I usually make it myself, so it's entirely possible I'll grab a carryout order one night for dinner or something. It's also possible someone will say hey, let's go to lunch, and Mission will be the place they suggest.

I haven't set foot in the Cracker Barrel, only been to TX Roadhouse once, the other new steak chain once, etc. I frequent the Duck, Reluctant Navigator, Vera's, and other places that are locally owned and operated. I'm not a big fan of formula restaurants, they just don't seem personal to me.

Idk why but this reminds me of this Stuff White People Like | This blog is devoted to stuff that white people like

You are probably going in with a preconceived notion from the beginning. If you had never seen said chain restaurant before, went in and thought it was a local establishment chances are you would have a different opinion.

Not all "Chains" are created equal. We went to western PA last week for a family function. When we saw my sister and brother-in-law, also from MD, they both were praising the "Kings Family" restaurant and bakery that they ate at the night before. Good homestyle food, fresh vegetables, and very good bakery items
I googled them later, and found out that they are a regional chain with 32 locations. With decent standards and quality control I think some chains can provide a nice dining experience and contribute to the local economy. The megachains only seem to care about the bottom line.

Did you have hot apple pie with cinnamon ice cream? I was excited to see that Bruester's has cinnamon ice cream, so maybe I can have that here too. :)

Eat n Park is also good

Eat n Park was good in the early to mid 90's, as was Ryans but of late both those have really gone down hill IMHO.

For western PA you couldn't beat Hoss's

And for lunch/sandwich Schlotzskies is really hard to beat, they are about 1000x better than Panara bread.

Ate at Eat n Park once a long time ago and it was fantastic because:

1) We had been at a 6 hour long wedding reception at the Pittsburgh Field Club :buddies::otter:

2) It was around midnight - 0100.

3) I had poached eggs served on top of corned beef hash, tall glass of milk and a side of pancakes and sausage. :yum:

Fair enough right there.

I hope you enjoy it if you get a chance. Bon Apetit

The Superburger is still good, as is the liver and onions

And the salad bar is clean

I never liked Schlotskies. The "bread" was greasy.

We didn't have Hoss's near us.

Ah I dont eat liver, in college we use to call Eat and Park, Park and Puke because it was open all night all the drunk people took advantage of the all night breakfast bar, a few did blow chunks over the years that I went there after midnight. I really like their christmas tree and star commercial, have since i was young.

Fox Chapel - are you from the area?

I was just there a month ago, but not at the Field Club

Funny that you had to stop and eat on the way "home".

There is actually a King's right there. You could have stopped there and washed the hash down with hot apple pie and cinnamon ice cream

We called it Eat and puke.

My favorite commercial. :)

I never understood why people want to eat breakfast food at 2am after a night at the bar. It's a disaster waiting to happen.

We were up there for a wedding and needed something to sop up all the alcohol.

Well in general it was the only place open. It was very entertaining, Jr High age kids asked me to buy them beer alot, one time a drunk guy at the breakfast bar said really loud to his girlfriend "You mean you had sex with someone other than me?" good time, good times.

There's something about strip mall restaurants that bug me. That whole....strip mall thing. It's fast-foody to me. I feel like with all the great restaurants around that have a view of the water or something else interesting, why would you eat in a strip mall? Mission BBQ just has too many unappealing factors for me to get excited about it or make a point to eat there.

Chick & Ruth's in Annapolis stops everything to pledge the flag each morning, which is very cool. But they're one of a kind, very unique, the owner is there every single day, and they're not in a strip mall. Plus their corned beef hash is to die for. If they were Denny's in Festival Shopping Center I wouldn't make it a point to eat there just because they did some patriotic thing or think it was particularly charming.

To me Mission is just Denny's BBQ. Yawn, I'm not excited. I can make food at home that's as good or better than any restaurant. Atmosphere is what brings me in the door.

I'm WAY more excited about Ruddy Duck opening up on St. George Island. :yahoo:

You can eat where you want

Thank you, I appreciate that.

You know, nobody is stopping you all from eating at Mission every night if you want. Not sure why you're so defensive or why this has become such a big deal.

My favorite thing after a night of inebriation was a Breakfast Jack at Jack in the Box back in the 70's.

Fried egg and cheese on an over-sized hamburger bun.

Alcohol absorption. Helps process the poison so you don't die in your sleep or get a DUI on the way home.
