For everyone that things mom and pop or "local" resturants are unique you only have to watch Gordon Ramseys Kitchen Nightmares to see how many high end "local" resturants buy frozen prepared food from suppliers like restaurant depot.

happy to be living
just getting around to reading through the thread - and i'm glad to see that someone else thought this besides me. I thought it sounded a bit smarmy when i read their press release thing. Ok, so they donate a portion of the profits on a particular day to various charities. I'm sure half of the local entrepreneurs donate quite a bit to charities. Lots of them donate to specific events, or do spirit nights or hold a benefit for someone in need. I'm sure they donate in lots of ways - so that doesn't make mission bbq unique. :yay:

Disclaimer: I'm not in st. Mary's, so i'll probably not have a lot of chances to get over to eat here, anyway. Especially with so many other nice places between here and there. Just sayin'.

I can live without BBQ

The family and I are long standing fans of Sonny's BBQ, to the point where my dad would take an empty cooler with him when he had flights that stopped over in florida and would fill it up with Sonny's to bring home. Hoping Mission BBQ is similar

That's nice. Glad he has a successful chain. He couldn't have done it without a tiny little local restaurant to start with.

Which ones? I'm all about helping local people so if you can back up your claim I'd like to know. I've never heard of a restaurant other than a chain having a spirit night.

See - now I have to say that I tried 2 Sonny's BBQ places while I lived in Florida. 1 in Orange Park (I *think*) and the one that opened on Fleming Island - near where we lived. I did not like it. The first one we were out shopping & decided to try. The other one near us we gave 2 shots and I didn't like it. Didn't like the sauce or the smoky flavor of their BBQ.

NOT like the homemade of mine or my family's BBQ.

Isn't Tequila Grill in a yucky strip mall?????? Great water view?????

It is a combination of deal-breakers that make me disinclined to frequent Mission BBQ and there is no huge incentive to make me disregard the negatives.

Again, you all feel free to eat wherever you please. If you think I "made" you feel inferior for wanting to eat BBQ from a bag in a strip mall, that's on you and has nothing to do with me. I'm over my annoyance and now think it's hilarious that you're all going so freaking crazy ......over a restaurant.

Talk about needing to get a life.

Write your Congressman! Demand that they create legislation forcing everyone to eat at Mission at least twice a week. Get all other BBQ places shut down. There are a million things you can do to support your misguided cause. Zealots do it all the time, sometimes quite effectively.

:patriot:

And after this absurd hoopla you better believe I'll never set foot in that place just on general principle. Throw down the gauntlet with me, will ya? Well you're not the boss of me and you can take THAT.

I think thats why bbq is so hard to agree on, everyone prefers a slightly different flavor. I was born in jacksonville and brought up with Sonny's being a special treat a couple times a year so thats what I prefer

(Definitely no homemade in my family)

You WILL assimilate. You WILL eat at Mission BBQ. I'm seeing the Apple MacIntosh commercial in my head.... We are one people, with one will, one resolve, one cause. We SHALL prevail!

Home made is always better. Except Maries Dutch Apple Pie.

AND, there are lots of different kinds of BBQ, and lot's of different tastes. Like the southern vinegar BBQ. What the hell is that all about?
