I don't know what the deal with Lenny's is but it has never been good when I've gone and I know people that can't get enough of the place.

I had a great run of luck with Lenny's, then bad bad bad bad....finally forget it.

I should have noted that I was referring to her comment about Spirit nights. I don't know of any businesses that aren't a chain who have spirit nights. Do you? Which ones was Bann talking about?

I was lumping all the charitable "giving"/donations into one - perhaps that was wrong. I also don't keep a list. Do you seriously mean that you have not seen local entrepreneurs donate a gift basket for a raffle to a benefit "Joey the child with leukemia", or a gift certificate for dinner for 2 to the "name your illness or malady" dance to benefit "whomever" . They do it all the time. Restaurants, along with all sorts of businesses do this sort of thing. Maybe *spririt night* was the wrong wording.

I don't have any idea what a spirit night is.

I do, however, know that where MissionBBQ may be generous; there are a lot of other businesses that are also generous but don't necessarily advertise or market it.

The brunch after our Run Walk is supplied 100% by small business/restaurants in Charles County as well as all of the food for our Wine Tasting. We also are very fortunate to have talented Chefs that donate their time to create and prepare the dinners for our C Ball.

I can't think of a business that has given as much money in such a short time to any given charity. My understanding is they gave $2000.00 to the Fallen firefighters, $2000.00 to Shop with a cop, and Several more thousand dollars to Wounded Warrior. You call it a gimmick I call it putting your money where your mouth is.

You said their press release was "swarmy", and agreed it was a gimmick. What exactly did you mean. Here is their official press release;

“From Texas to Kansas City, the Carolinas to St. Louis, and all the tasty local joints on back roads nationwide, we set out to master America’s greatest contribution to culinary arts: BBQ! We grilled the Grill-Masters. Learned their secret sauces. Sampled their best again and again. (That’s called research.) Then brought it all home to share.
“Mission BBQ is especially proud to serve those who serve. Our respect goes out to every military member, firefighter, police officer and first responder. Some of the proceeds from your lunch or dinner may be helping out with important fundraising and community support. We’re also eager to share our best with service organizations, local sporting teams and more.
“This is YOUR place, so feel at home. And don’t be shy to ask about our tributes on the walls and tables around you. They’re all one-of-a-kind—not reproductions—and many were personally given to us by the bravest, finest, most patriotic Americans we’ve ever met.
“We also encourage you to join us for our daily salute to the flag: Every day, at exactly 12 noon, the entire restaurant stops to honor Old Glory during our national anthem. It’s just our way. The American Way.
“You’re always welcome here. You complete our mission.”

I don't see the gimmick. The owner is a local entrepreneur, who is doing what according to you half the other local entrepreneurs are doing. This restaurant however you think is swarmy. I am just curious what makes it so?

I'm not interested in your nitpiking of my intent and/or what the meaning of the word "is" is. I said what I said and it stands on it's own. Now, I gotta git- cuz I gotta hot date.

The way I read it, Bann believes that their charity functions, while nice, are a big part of their marketing and advertising "campaigns" rather than just something they are doing because they believe in it.

I had also thought about that upon first impression ( edit to clarify, my thoughts included that it seemed a bit tacky but is good for the recipients of said charity), but I will hold my judgement until I see how they conduct business in the future. In the end, if they are ####ty businessmen and the food sucks, people aren't really going to flock there just for that, or at least most people

You work there, don't you? Might as well come out with it because you couldn't be any more transparent.

Rather than be combative and alienate people, you might consider promoting your restaurant in a more positive manner. When people on here had questions or complaints about Ruddy Duck, Carlos didn't come on here and start blasting them. He addressed their concerns.

I generally avoid chains, but you ain't gonna stop me from going to Brusters.. :yum: Just had a 'naner split.

I am so very blessed
Who freakin' cares if they donate to charitable organizations as a publicity stunt?

That a charitable organization gets much-needed cash to help fund their goals is what is important. If your purchase at said restaurant gets you food in your tummy AND gets a charity some cash, then all I see is a win-win situation.

You need to go back to her original post where she praised Smokey Joes. I dont think their atmosphere is on the water or there is a tiki deck connected to the moving and storage place next door.

The NC pulled pork sammich is the best I've ever had. The view of the idiots on 235 is priceless.

SJ's rocks, and I miss it.

Whoa, hold on. Your post actually hammers the business for the statements of someone you say works there but I'm pretty sure doesn't. As for Carlos, nobody was hammering them for presenting a false front, a thing that pretty hard to fight against. His issues were relatively easy, and there was no question about him being the guy. Noise and the occasional wait staff issue, and he was able to nail those down pretty quick

Were I a Mission BBQ guy, I know I wouldn't want the reputation of my place hammered for the statements of a guy I don't even know. Hows about you dont hammer a place for things said by someone who might not even be an employee.
