ACtually I was passing on a hint NOT to order it. I DIDN'T know what it was when I ordered it- it was just a warning. And I don't think I'm special for knowing it now. Sorry for expressing an opinion.

Because Foie Gras is the word for "fat liver", not pate'. The word for pate is leverpostej and it's liver being formed into a sort of paste to which herbs, salt, pepper and any other desired seasoning is added

You know, this brought to mind the day I had lunch at the little tea place in L-town. Ever see the prices on their menu? Getting a waitress to come to your table is like pulling teeth, then while they're listening to you their eyes glaze over.

I detest that phony place...
My DIL got tossed out of there because they said she stayed too long and they needed her table.

It is probably the nicest restaurant St Mary's county has right now- and it is affordable. I know very few people who could afford to eat there every night- but it's great for special occasions (and food snobs.)
But the Tasting of Foie Gras is YUCK!!!! (that's liver pate, by the way!)
