More about the MD smoking ban

The fact of the matter is, you've ALWAYS had that option.

All you had to do was patronize the Non-Smoking establishments.

Exactly. If you were one of these business owners, how would you feel about a bunch of schmucks in suits telling you that can't allow something on YOUR PROPERTY because a bunch of lazy, whiney b******s simply wouldn't go to a place that chose not to allow it? What's next, passing a law that says I can't smoke in my house if someone complains? How about passing a law against wearing a certain color of clothing because it's offensive? WTF is the matter with some people?

That's it! I'm running an underground "Smokers Only" club out of my basement.

How many of you called or wrote a politician when all this was going on?
I did, but my legislators were already against the ban.

Martin O'Malley has already said he will sign this bill into law. I did not vote for him. I highly doubt he cares what I think.

I'm going outside for a smoke. I'm going to blow it in every non-smokers face that walks by me. They don't have to walk by the smoking area if they don't like it. I figure they'll just take the smoking area away from me soon anyway!

Uh...hadn't found many of those in St Marys...Dont think I have even found 1! You can't even sit in Damons, Lonestar, Outback, or Cheeseburger in Paradise for a nice dinner with your kids without smelling smoke that has gone wayward out of its section.

I was at Applebee’s on Sat evening in the non-smoking section. My ten year old ended up having to use his inhaler because of the smoke encroachment in the non-smoking section. If restaurants had done it right in the first place, there would’ve never been so much support for the smoking ban. The private sector had their chance and f ’ed it up. Hence the public support for the ban.

I think regular bars (i.e. Hole in the Wall, Dew Drop Inn, Abells, Back Road, etc. ), that don’t serve food in a restaurant format, should be exempt.

Being a non smoking sports bar has always been Green Turtle's niche. I wonder how this will affect their profits, now that they won't be the only game in town.

If you'd happy with an inch, why be selfish and support taking a mile? I.E., support making the sections sperated by walls rather than air, instead of banning it altogether?

Or just not visiting those restraunts if it's such a big deal. If it's so important to you, why do you continue to go there? Some things should be voted on by feet/money rather than dealt with legally. Funny how people forget that more and more everyday.

This is what they did in Columbus, OH - there is a city ordinance that prohibits smoking within x-feet of a door or entryway.

It's 50 feet on PAX. That's why we have Gazeebo's all over the place.

When Lincoln, NE went non-smoking, my parents were all for it. "YAY!" they said, "Now we can go to restaurants and not have to smell smoke!"

One year after the ban took effect, guess where they go to eat?

That's right - the exact same places they ALWAYS went to that were ALWAYS non-smoking.

Gee, I wonder why they'll take it away. :duh: Maybe if you were a little more considerate. :smack: You're one of the reason smokers have such a bad rap. :buttkick:

Its not prohibition until tobacco is made illegal.
I direct you to the 18th Amendment:

http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/data/constitution/amendment18/

Section 1. After one year from the ratification of this article the manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors within, the importation thereof into, or the exportation thereof from the United States and all territory subject to the jurisdiction thereof for beverage purposes is hereby prohibited.

Section 2. The Congress and the several States shall have concurrent power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Section 3. This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by the legislatures of the several States, as provided in the Constitution, within seven years from the date of the submission hereof to the States by the Congress.

Show me where it says it's illegal to drink or be in possession of alcohol?
