Motorcycle parking on base?

They closed the M/C parking during a construction project and told us to park in BFE. I've been parking in a regular spot, now they're complaining. If I weren't riding the bike I'd have my car parked there?

Whos complaining? Tell them to call the base cops and see if they give you a ticket.

Perfectly legal. It can take a car spot with no issues. Now, might be nice if riders doubled up when doing so, but theres no requirement. Ask them to show that to you in the base traffic/parking regs, or just pipe the heck down. Where on base is this?

Per the Base Parking Instruction it is pretty much up to the Individual Commands.

I don't have it with me but, from memory it pretty much leave leaves all parking concerns up to each command. It does go on to say at a minimum each command will provide Handicap Parking. When possible, parking will be provided for service vehicles (IAP and the like). It does say you will park in a designated parking spot (Marked by lines).

Who is giving you grief TomCat? Us guys in the Guardshack have not been sweating that during the construction project. If they just started this friday then something has changed since I left friday morning and the Facilities Coordinator has decided to put emphasis on this again.

From the securuty side. If we are told to enforce that we do. But we try to overlook it until one of the Big Shot Civil Service who hahs makes a stink then we put emphasis on it for a while then it all blows away. Unfotunately the Civil Service who hahs are very wishy washy with this stuff and change their minds with the weather. They'll write up some new policy, put in effect, expect us to enforce it. Then the first time we tag someone with any rank then it all goes out the window again till the next time they get a bug up their butt about parking. It never ends.

Most of the Commands have designated motorcycle parking and it's usually right up front. When it's full we take the cars spots.

Thats the way our command is as well. Several of the Motorcycle folks got together and requested it. The command put them in ample spots. As TomCat stated they are doing construction on a bldg. adjacent to the spots and have allowed the Construction folks to park there as well as place the their construction trash dumsters there.

Looking at it from my point of view I personnaly don't give a hoot where the bikes are parked as long as they are in a designated parking spot. The problem comes from the higher ups spending the money to make the motorcycle spots, then expects all bikes to be in them. Makes sense but when you trun right around and allow construction folks to make use of the spots it kinda throws everything out the window for a while.

I am unsure as to who exactly has given TomCat grief. But as of 0700 Friday morning our stance in the guardshack has been to let it go.

From a base point of view, no the police will not issue a ticket. It's up to the command. From the guardshack point of view. When things settle back down and those spots are reopened then if you don't park there then we try to catch up with you and ask you to park in the motorcycle parking. If you don't, we go to your supervisor. If that don't work we go to the Commanding officer. Do we 'want' to do this? No. But when then command sets a policy then it becomes our job to enforce it.

Personally I don't not think this needs to be 'enforced' until such a time as there are not enough parking spaces at each comand for all the vehicles. In this case I think they could condense two bikes into the same amount of space as a car would take. But again I don't think this really should be enforced until there is a shortage of parking. Unfortunately when the Govt. pays to have deicated Motorcycle parking lots placed, I guess they expect them to be used.

Jeff, I got called about 2:30 Friday afternoon. Talked to a few people this morning about it. From what I heard, where they were telling us to park (backside of the hangar by the new building) is a fire lane. I'm parked in a regular spot again today so we'll see what happens.
Thanks

Buddy, I am with ya. It's a confusing mess. All I can say it this. The area you are being told to park in behind Bldg 3250 has never been officially marked as a Fire Lane. When Motorcycles parked there before I never saw anything from Facilities advising anyone not to park there because it was a fire lane. That used to be to Designated Motorcycle Area. It was legal then and nothing has changed or they would not have told everyone to park there. Then they changed it to the new one. Now with the Construction it is back to the old one. The last thing I saw from Facilities advised folks to park on the North Side of 3250. (The old Motorcycle Parking Area).

Thankfully this construction thing is a temp deal and hopefully things will return to normal soon.

Parking behind 3250 was never a issue before for bikes it protected them from all the cars bumping them and so forth. If I remember correctly when the bike parking was in front there were numerous complaints if a car parked in "their " spot, but I guess since it isnt up front any longer now bikes want any place they can park it..some folks just are not happy. Just park at the smoke pit yea I know it isnt marked but at least it wont hurt your legs walking to the hangar!!! Me Ill just continue to park where it is marked for me to do so.:coffee:

Park in the car spots. What's the difference if I drive my car to work or my bike. Still the only one in the vehicle and still taking up one parking spot.
