Not quite ready for Iron Butt ride yet I don't think. Got to admit it sounds tempting . I need a little more experience so maybe next year fir me , we'll see.
I wouldn't even consider it with my Honda, had to fill up every 150 miles max. The new bike has a 6 gal. tank

that would suck donkey doo if you got all the way back and find out youre really at 978 miles, its pouring down rain, your hungry, tired, and have to go #2.
hopefully that wont happen.
That would totally suck :bawl:
On the IBA web site, they tell you which map programs they use to determine milage and tell you not to reley on odometers. Since most bikes (especially Jap) have optmistic speedos, a 5% error on your speedo would result in a 50 mile error on your odometer for 1k miles.

GPS would be your best friend :yay:

Read the rules, every highway change has to be documented. I was thinking spend the night in some flop house in Fredricksburg, start from there at O dark thirty and have lunch in Hardeesville SC. No major cities/traffic once you're past Richmond. 503 miles.
Maybe cross the border into GA and fill up with gas just to make sure we go over 1k miles.
Well, yeah you have to do a trip report, gas reciepts date and time stamped.. witnesses at the start and finish.. Some paperwork but not too bad.. Figure I did 800 in a day with about a 4 or 5 hour stop over while awaiting rescue.. so figure 1000 can't be too much harder..

Highway changes to Cleveland wouldn't be too bad, and it's about 85% interstate.. LOT of miles in a LITTLE time. FIgure.. Beltway, 270, 70, 99, 80.. then whatever Interstate that cuts north to Cleveland. I already have the requisite fuel stops planned.. Fuel here of course.. Breezewwod, Int of I 270 and 70.. (200 Miles).. just before the Border of Ohio and PA, Barkeyville PA, inter of I-80 and Rte 8.. 400 Miles.. Then the same fuel stops on the way back..

I am new at this riding thing and I have never heard of "Iorn Butt", What is that. The thread after it referred to a 1000 mile ride is that what it is? :howdy:
The REAL insane ride is the Rally they sponsor every year .. The Iron Butt Rally.. 11,000 miles in a 11 days!! The winner this year logged over 13,000 miles in a 11 days.. and it's a lot more then just driving.. you have to plan out bonuses based on value and time, distance to get to them. You can win the rally with less miles.

Loops or laps are not allowed..

Besides, we only have 24 hours to do 1000 miles not a week!

If anyone is thinking about taking the basic riding course, sign up NOW! CSM filled their first six classes within 24 hours of registration opening. If you're not certain you want to take the course, sign up anyway. If you change your mind later you can get a full refund from CSM as long as you drop the course before the first class begins.

You need to change your AV!!!!
yeah I know. Soon as I get some photos with the new bike. So far I've only taken on photo in the driveway.
Have a Givi V46 silver/black topcase and 2 flat black E45N side cases on order Should be here next week. Have a Pat Walsh Designs skidplate/crash bar combo that's going on when I do the first oil change (tomorrow).
Then new photos and a new av

I got in the class starting on April 12 at La Plata! It said it was filled on the website and I was having trouble negotiating the site, so I called, expected to have to take it in June. VOILA!!!!!!

thats awesome you got into the class! now you just gotta practice up some more in the driveway
That's what the man says. He just gets pissed when I drive through the cans he has set up, missing the diet cokes and smashing the full beers. It is way too cold to practice now. I'll focus on taking the test for the permit this week. Haven't been on the bike since November.........
