My blind boxer girl

Do you think she may sense your anxiety, which in turn causes her to be scared.? I was devastated when I found out my boston girl was deaf at birth, but it isn't the end of the world. If her blindness is permanent, both of you will get use to it in time. You'll see. Hang in there, and let us know about the appointment. Again, fingers crossed that there is a simple solution to this.

Agree. My Sox kitty who died at 15 this past January was deaf from birth. He adapted and ended up outlasting his other 3 fur buddies adopted at the same time (1 cat, 2 dogs). He was a trooper. I feel bad for you, KD, because I know how worried you are. It will work out. It always does.

yeah. I'm kind of freaking out because now it's quite obvious she can't see at all. I get uneasy with her even going outside now because I know she's scared. SO I get to rush home from work (45 minutes) to grab her and drive up to BOWIE another 45 minutes at least ..,, no idea what they are gonna do. I'm assuming a MRI

Good luck today. Have my paws crossed for you both.

So another visit with no answers.... the neurologist tested her for any sort of obvious neurological disorders and she passed every test. She was a doll by the way, he was poking and bending her head, neck, legs and paws in every direction and she was such a trooper. I wouldn't have been so cordial in her condition !!! So, we still have no answers, he suggested an MRI and spinal tap for now and sent out for more blood work (third time in as many weeks). He kept talking about optic neuritis and GME but said every sort of "diagnosis" is so rare in either dogs her age, or her breed, I left with my head in a whirl wind. I have no idea.

:ohwell: I really am sorry you are going through all this.

Thank you. It just makes me sad for her and she doesn't even seem to care. Tail still wags like its on fire !!! I just really don't know where to go from here. I'm waiting for further consultation from the opthomologist. Did you ever get the feeling a vet wants to do all these tests and stuff just because it's puzzling to them not because they think it will help ? That's how I felt today. Not that I think there was anything done wrong. Just the unanswered questions.

Yes, I have felt that way with my old cat. I think she is just aging quicker than most cats due to a poor start as a kitten. She is almost 11 but people think she's a few years older than that. She's pretty gimpy, barely sees... but her heart & lungs are clear. It gets to the point where you just cannot continue to spend more money on vet visits that yield no results.

Your pup is just too young to have all this happening.... just a bad hand for her all the way around.

That is what my vet told me. Just bad luck. Especially with what just happened to Sox kitty. He was a perfectly healthy 15 year old deaf kitty that just happened to get cancer in his left shoulder bone. KD, I am sure you have spent a small fortune in vet bills lately. I always wondered about the insurance you can take out on your pets, but never did it. Does anyone here know if that is legit or not? Try not to worry too much, KD, and just smother your blind fur baby with lots of love.

Many customers find having insurance to be helpful; especially at times like what KD is going through. BUT...read the fine print and make sure your vet of choice honors it. In fact, you may want to ask someone at your vet's office who they recommend.

I did have pet insurance on my other boxer and it didn't cover much of anything, fact is, it covered and paid for as much as you paid in.

Also, I don't think it would cover what Molly is going through right now because other than the blindness, it's all elective tests that we are CHOOSING to do, I'm sure they'd say she could survive perfectly fine being blind.

I think I'm at the point now and after having spoke with my husband, if the ophthalmologist recommends we get the MRI and spinal tap, we have no choice but to do it. I can't see her being so young and living with this if there was ANY thing we could do or at the very least let us know that she has nothing else wrong with her like a brain tumor or something that will make her worse !!

so.... I have always been anit pet insurance ... but I have found a great company Trupanion. :yay: I have the puppy and Crackhead on it now. their monthly bill will not go up as they age ... and I was able to adjust the copay.. they are the best out there.

only thing is ... they wont cover pre existing conditions. ... so I will give this a try as my fear with Cracky is her knees. so that will be covered if anything happens!!

Im sure they would have covered what she is going thru now..

Thanks for sharing your experience with pet insurance...

I really hope everything comes together with Molly. It sounds like you may never have all the answers. But as long as she has you and your family and has quality of life, she is one very blessed and lucky pup :huggy:

Keep the chin up KD. You never know, someday she might see again despite what you have had done.

Thank you Roman ! :huggy: We agreed to the MRI. Husband and I agreed we can't live with ourselves if we didn't try everything possible.
When is she scheduled? I think the MRI will probably give you your answer. Good or bad, you need to know. Is she still on the prednisone?
