You can, however, retrofit an existing house with geothermal anywhere from 6K - 18K. Might look into that.bcp said:And the libs will still cry about Nuclear power plants.
go figure.
I just looked into solar for the house,
a 9kw setup would cost me 64,000 to install...
guess that wont be in my near future.

it seems that since we are on this poverty billing,, or I guess they call it the budget billing, we used up too much energy this year and have a deficit.
so, they are pumping up the bills between now and July to cover that over usage.
then in July, we can expect our bill to go up the 70 or whatever percent it is.
so, I will go from 183 to about the 300+ as a monthly cost.
I say we all just go on down to the main office of BG&E or whomever our local supplier is and beat the president about the face and head with large heavy blunt objects while yelling profanities. Then we roll him over and get the gay guy in the group to shove all the over priced bills up the presidents backside with great force and glee.

You have no idea how much electricity is wasted across America everyday by VCR's and DVD players blinking 12:00.........12:00.........12:00.........12:00.........12:00.........12:00kwillia said:I've switched to washing my clothes in cold water, appliances not in use are unplugged so as not to continue drawing current, and the kids are only allowed to microwave their nuggets for 1/2 the normal cooking time... they've adapted quite well and have even started calling them nuggcicles.

And if you lean in closely to a T.V. that is plugged in and not turned on you can hear a faint "ca-ching... ca-ching... ca-ching"Pete said:You have no idea how much electricity is wasted by VCR's and DVD players blinking 12:00.........12:00.........12:00.........12:00.........12:00.........12:00
Great idea, Pete, but when I redesigned my kitchen I purposely did not install a dishwasher because I think they are a waste of energy and resources. I do something similar though... I wrap M's breakfast in foil and place it on the manifold. It's hot by the time we get to daycare which saves me time and electricity...Pete said:You can also more wisely use electricity. When running the dishwasher you can put in cans of Chef Boyardee Beefaroni. During the dry cycle your dishes are dried and you dinner is cooked all at the same time.![]()

Very true. Tube TVs are continually drawing power to keep the tube warmed up so that you don't have to wait a few seconds for your picture when it gets turned on. My DLP takes a few seconds to get a picture, but it's not drawing nearly as much power when it is off.kwillia said:And if you lean in closely to a T.V. that is plugged in and not turned on you can hear a faint "ca-ching... ca-ching... ca-ching"

Apples and oranges comparing residential electricity, which is regulated, mostly generated by coal, supplied to a grid, and gasoline which is a traded commodity based on a free market.
I just called SMECO and the very helpful customer service representative told me that:
1. SMECO's last rate increase was 1 December 2005.
2. The cost per KWh went from 05.94 cents to 07.32 cents.
That works out to a 23.2% increase 3.5 months ago NOT a 100%+ increase this month.
Therefore I still smell fish.
An electrician wouldn't be able to help. You need to ask an electrical engineer. Unfortunately, my electrical knowledge is limited, but it looks like a bunch of capacitors to me. I think it would help prevent brown outs, but I doubt it will reduce your energy usage...especially the 25% that they claim. BTW, here's the patent that they based their product on:Abby said:Is there an electrician in the house?
I found this online but am skeptical. Is there a professional who can tell me whether this will actually work?
