New Car Seat Law

4'9??? I'm only 5'1 and I'm 26-that means my daughter and I could have shared a car seat about 3 years ago, LOL.

My daughter is 7, not sure how tall she is, she's a short little sh*t, maybe 3'2, and she weighs 65 pounds-she sits in a backless booster. I would prefer for her to be in the booster with a back, but she was too big for it (her buddha belly got in the way). When we go on long trips I put it in the car and use the tether and then rather than use the harness I put the seat belt on her. It's not as safe as using the harness but I figure it's safer then the backless one.
That's why there is also an age requirement. Dwarfs for example can't meet the height requirement, but of course, they drive modified cars, but I knew a full grown adult with no medical or genetic condition who was only 4'9"

My 5-yo is 3'6" and 47 lbs and is just a little bit tall for her age, so a 3'2" 7-yo is pretty short. The new law says she can get out of the car seat at 65lbs or 8 years old, but...

My kids aren't allowed out of the booster until they can sit up straight in the seat with their feet on the floor. Which I believe is the reason for the 4'9" number...my long-legged 9-yo isn't quite that tall.

You can put them in a booster at 4.
That's my point. Don't the manufacturers of booster seats say the child must be 4 in addition to any height or weight requirements....

Some states say straight out that they can't move from car seat to booster seat until age 4, and some states, like Maryland don't try to quibble over the differences between the car seat and the booster seat, but say, "according to the manufacturer's instructions" But I thought the federal guidelines for labeling such seats included the 4-yo age requirement.

I think that's a great policy. Might have to borrow it.

I don't. My feet still do not touch the floor in most backseats. I have short legs.:ohwell:

And no, I'm not going there. I've never done it in the backseat of a car.

My kids are tall. Both are off the charts in height. I am 6 feet and that's considered on the shorter side in my family. My dad is 6'5 and my brother is 6'6. Mom is about my height too.
