Does a diagnosis of mental illness equate to a proclivity towards violence?
Not that I am aware of. Not unless it's sociopath or psychopath
Actually it should be the opposite, if they are being treated by medical professionals they are probably lower risk.
First, you accepted you had a problem and sought treatment. Second, you should feel better if a qualified physician and therapist are treating you.
Ironically the undiagnosed would be a risk, but they can't prove it. So the law is actually counter productive., people are not going to seek treatment if it means they will be suspects in criminal witch hunts

I never mentioned doctors.
Well? Is it not doctors, of the psychological profession, that make determinations as to the wherewithall of a persons mindset? Ergo, doctors, that are "practicing" medicine, or, as in psychology, aka mental health, cases, it is really more of an 'opinion'. Why? Because a diagnosis from one psych doctor to the next can vary greatly. Depending on many factors. One being is whom is signing the doctor's paycheck.

Are you really that ignorant? You don't think they can't diagnose mental illness or that it doesn't exist?
Jeez. I must be. (That really ignorant). And no ... the average psychologist is usually making a guess. Albeit, an educated guess. Learned from their over priced schooling, funded in part by the pharmaceutical industry, and other interested organizations. Any fool can read the latest Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) edition. Written of course by those who stand to profit. And come to a close enough conclusion to support "red flag" order. Get real. Those in positions, such as pysc doctors, know which side their bread is buttered. Stop trusting others. Especially doctors, career government workers, and politicians.

I'm afraid we, the people, have allowed our political leaders to create a similar system in the name of safety and security.
We condone "routine" traffic stops for "trivial" equipment violations (like one small bulb out in the overhead bar) but that's time to run ID and search the vehicle - all in the name of safety and security.
We use plate trackers and traffic cameras as surviellance.
We allowed the FBI to interconnect the Counter Intelligence Division with the Law Enforcement Division. Hence, if you don't have evidence of a crime, create a counter intelligence case and get a FISA warrant - ask Mike Flynn how that worked out. As one pundit put it, if you can't make a case, keep them under tight surveillance until you can find something to leverage them with. Then push them to the brink so they are willing to plead to anything. A bit more subtle than the KGB or NKVD, but pretty much the same tactics.
Then there are the "Red Flag" laws. The new form of SWATTING. All it takes is a call. Put your target on the gestapo's radar and they will find what they are looking for. I forget what the condition is called, but it's when a police investigation goes in targeting one suspect they only see the evidence that points to their guilt, evidence to the contrary, and evidence that someone else may actually be a better suspect is lost in the fixation on suspect number 1. Similar to the psychology involved in self fulfilling prophecy, where a first impression, based on appearance is only reinforced, often overlooking the negatives information. It's how mass murders have such long runs of terror.

Never meant to infer that you did. Was merely making a statement relative to the topic. You mentioned "mental health problems". I just took it a step further to be critical of the medical profession.
