Is that why the commissioners are looking at rezoning some land out of the RPD in that area?

Charles County has 2 walmarts - One in waldorf and one in Laplata - if this walmart in Mechaicsville/Charlotte Hall would go in - it would be St. Mary's County not Charles County.

It would never happen in Hughesville, those Preserve Hughesville people come out like flies on $hit when anyone plans on building something good for the area. There's nothing to perserve in Hughesville main street deserted, bank has even closed up. Been over 2 years and they cant anyone to rent space in those 4 stores just down from the barns.

Few years back there was talk of a Walmart buy Food Lion as huntr1 mentioned, but that got shot down because Walmart somehow wanted an entrance from Rt 5, they were told no. Only piece of land now that could be big enough for a Walmart in Charlotte Hall is on the southbound side between Mohawk Dr and Charlotte Hall Rd (22 acres) on Rt 5. and on the northbound side of Rt. 5 from Charlotte Hall School Rd up to just before the Cords kind of across from Woods Produce.

There are plans on the table for the Walmart in LaPlata to become a super Walmart.

How about the farmers market?...

Don't forget about all of that farmland across from Burchmart/7-Eleven - BOCC just did some rezoning for the boat storage. I'm sure they would rezone more for Wal-Mart!

Just remember what you are asking for when you take land and start to build this that and the other on it...

Good grief. There's 1 Walmart in the counties that surround us...Kent, Queen Anne's, Talbot, and Caroline County. So. MD is crawling with them.

 People are too damn lazy to get in there car and drive anymore. Seriously, I moved into a rural area for a reason.

Those counties are smart. I'd really like to see fewer of those China sales outlet stores.

Have you seen the plans for Hughesville Station and the Bargain Barns? Not sure who owns those 4 stores but doesn't seem very bright to build without having someone interested in moving in first. New empty store fronts/strip malls sitting all over Charles County, not just Hughesville. Also, the rent they are/were asking is totally unrealistic.

Whoever built those office areas got what they deserved, empty store fronts. The bank should have never loaned them the money...
