My family always does the Bayberry candle. Sometimes the Black Eyed Peas. And the Corned Beef and cabbage thing.

What are your traditions for Good Luck?

When I was stationed in Naples, Italy, they would toss old furniture out the window on New Years. And I don't mean from the ground floor unit.

We always eat pork and sauerkraut for dinner. The first dinner of the New Year is suppose to be something that doesn't "scratch" for food. Supposedly if you eat things that " scratch" for food you'll be scratching for money all year.... My gram swears by it lol. PA Dutch tradition I guess.

It's not been a good year for me so far. I hope that's not an indication for how things will go for the rest of the year.

I worked all night (no biggie) but struggled to stay awake then entire trip home (a biggie)

I went to pick up food for my son and my order was number 13 (eek)

I went to the wrong house for NYD celebration dinner (they liked the dessert I brought, so they fed me anyway)

When I did go to the right house, (with the remains of the dessert), the neighbor we avoid like the plague was there. And I was rude to his wife, who is actually very nice (so now I feel bad).

I think I need to break the cycle!

I think you are an extraordinary person to have worked all night, and made the attempt to be social. Thank goodness you made it home. Don't worry about the rest. The people that know you here from your posts, know you are a very nice, and very intelligent person. Happy New Year, acd!

My parents did the Black Eyed Pea thing until my sisters and I were old enough to tell them we were not eating that nasty stuff anymore.:barf: Now I hear one of my sisters resurrected the tradition with her own kids, I am not sure why but I guess when you start the new year with a bad taste in your mouth you have no where to go but up.

I start the new year by beating the wife and the child so they know what is in store for the new year if they step out of line.

I'll take what you're having. I spent NYE in the hospital staring at the ceiling. Just got home yesterday, will be pretty much non-useful for a few more days. Then I get to look forward to a surgery in a month or two to fix the issue that keeps putting me in the ER.

I refuse to eat black eye peas :barf: I usually do a prime rib roast, baked potatoes and green peas. I don't know if it brings good luck or not, but it taste so good!!
