What a total load of horseshit.Gavin Newsom launches political organization to oppose Republican policies in red states
"NEW: I'm launching a new organization, Campaign for Democracy," Newsom wrote on Twitter. "America is in an existential struggle for democracy. Extremist Republicans are systematically attacking the very foundations of our free society — denying women equality, attacking communities of color, fetishizing weapons of war, banning books, restricting speech, and undermining the right to vote. It's un-American. It's un-democratic. Time to fight back. Join us."

The campaign's website states it was created to fight the rise of authoritarianism.
"The Campaign for Democracy was founded to expose and fight rising authoritarianism across the nation," the website states. "We believe that all patriotic Americans must go on offense in red states as well as blue states, bringing the fight to statehouses, local communities, electoral battlegrounds, and our nation's capitol to save the great American experiment in democracy."
[L]ike a California cabernet left out on a humid afternoon, the Newsom brand may not travel all that well. Montgomery is a long way from Sacramento, and Newsom’s political machine has only been tested in friendly territory, where his party enjoys a supermajority. Many Democrats will be glad to spend his money, but it’s far less clear that they’ll want his advice or his obsessive focus on the culture-war contrasts between Democratic and Republican states.
[T]his strategy bets that the message of a California governor — who made his fortune in fine wines and has deep ties to elite San Franciscans like Nancy Pelosi — can resonate elsewhere.
State Party Chair Nikki Fried said she’d welcome extra resources “to highlight the failures of Ron DeSantis,” but there are limits. She also said Newsom’s favorite California-versus-Florida framing, which resonates with some West Coast liberals, would backfire in DeSantis’ backyard.
“What would not be helpful is a comparison between the two states,” Fried said. “Florida is very different from California.”
Democrats [in Texas] need to show the “the contrast between responsible mainstream Democrats and irresponsible, extreme Republicans,” he said — not “more ‘turn Texas blue’ pep rallies.”
“The resources are needed, and there is some smart money that gets spent in Texas from outside,” Angle said. “But Texans, even Democrats, resent people coming in and acting like they’re bringing fire to cavemen.”
California is legally bound to continue doing business with Walgreens through the state’s massive Medicaid program, health law experts said. And according to a public records request, the state paid Walgreens $1.5 billion last year.
Newsom’s administration confirmed it will “continue to comply” with federal law by paying Walgreens through Medi-Cal, which provides health coverage to roughly 15 million residents with low incomes and disabilities. Were California to stop covering Medi-Cal prescriptions filled at Walgreens stores, legal scholars warned, the state would run afoul of federal law, which allows patients to get their medications at any approved pharmacy.
Come back as a more seasoned and capable leader with a little humility. Which, by the way, he could use a little of.
All of this and more, and yet California voters keep electing him and he keeps destroying whatever he is elected to.What Gavin Newsom's 'Make America California' tour conveniently ignored
Newsom lambasts red state leaders for so-called bans while conveniently forgetting the many essentials he and California Democrats will no longer allow. He failed to mention that state-funded travel is banned to 23 states, including the four he visited on his tour. He didn’t disclose that the sale of gas-powered cars will be banned in 2035. And he certainly didn’t discuss that even skittles may not be safe from a ban in California.
If Newsom really wants to warn against authoritarian leadership, there’s no better place to start than with himself.
Newsom also tried to present himself as a guiding light on issues like education while never mentioning the dire straits schools in his home state are currently in. Students needlessly suffered as a result of Newsom’s extended school shutdowns. Recent test scores showed two thirds or more of California students aren’t at grade level in math and science while California ranks dead last in literacy. Meanwhile, public school enrollment continues to decline as families relocate, many to the very states Newsom is busy lecturing.
