NFL enters an era of no salary cap

Some is gonna read that story and claim "Vinny Lives!!!" another reclamation project.
Yeah, I'm hoping this guy is for depth in the new system. If he's able to get back to his form he'll be a good run stuffer. He's never been a great pass rusher, however.

He would be a decent nose tackle, which may give Haynesworth the opportunity to push on one side and rush the passer.

A trade in the works??

In search of 3-4 help, Redskins eye trade for Rams DL Carriker
By Jason La Canfora | NFL.com

The Washington Redskins are interested in acquiring defensive lineman Adam Carriker from the St. Louis Rams and have contacted the team about the possibility, league sources said Thursday.

New Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett, who coached Carriker in St. Louis, is a strong proponent of the three-year NFL veteran and would like to add him as Washington transitions to a 3-4 scheme, according to team and league sources. The Redskins also graded Carriker highly coming out of Nebraska when Gregg Williams was running their defense.

Carriker can toggle between tackle and end, and he has two sacks and 53 tackles in 31 career games. He played end in college, and his transition to tackle has been bumpy.

Albert Haynesworth, who's due a $21 million bonus in April, isn't interested in playing nose tackle in Washington, according to team and league sources, and convincing him to do so will not be easy for a player who often has clashed with coaches. Even after signing former Carolina Panthers nose tackle Maake Kemoeatu, the Redskins could use more 3-4 personnel to fortify their defensive line.

The Redskins, who have shown uncharacteristic restraint in the free-agent market thus far, could be active on the trade market, and defensive end Andre Carter might be on his way out of Washington. Carter has struggled as a tweener linebacker in a 3-4 front, but he has value because he plays a position that has few available alternatives in the free-agent market.

Carter is one of few players to have a no-trade clause in his contract, but he's very open to a change of scenery and would waive that clause should the right opportunity arise, according to team and league sources. The Redskins signed Carter as a free agent in 2006 and renegotiated his deal in 2009. Last season, he had 11 sacks, his highest total since 2002.

I'm still not too sure Fat Albert isnt on the chopping block. He has butted heads with TPTB so it could happen. :dingding:

They're out to get us
a guy is being paid $100mil and pretty much signed through the rest of his career, right? Guess what -- it doesn't matter what you play, you might as well do as you're told because you're under contract to do whatever they demand! If you don't like it, you should forfeit 100% of your salary and go elsewhere. Guarantee you he won't make that much money anywhere else, not after last season. So the Skins will get their way if they choose to fight it out. And I bet they could find a clause to terminate his entire contract if he's unwilling to do what he's paid for.

Every Monday, Scouts Inc. takes a look at the major storylines to watch this offseason:
The Redskins sign
Maake Kemoeatu

This signing hasn't gotten a lot of publicity, but I think it could be extremely beneficial to the Redskins as they transition to a 3-4. Kemoeatu is not a young man and didn't play a down last season after tearing his Achilles tendon, but if he is healed, he is exactly what the doctor ordered at nose tackle. He played at a very high level in 2008, and this massive human being is a terrific run-stuffer.

Maake Kemoeatu's ability to occupy blockers should allow Albert Haynesworth to wreak more havoc.

When healthy and right, he commands double-teams and occupies the point of attack. Rarely does he go backward. Let's assume he is healthy -- or at least will be for the season opener. This addition does a lot for Washington. Obviously,
Albert Haynesworth is a supreme talent who is capable of taking over a game. With Kemoeatu at nose on early downs, Haynesworth can play defensive end, allowing the superstar to best use his abilities and make more plays.

Without a guy like Kemoeatu in the equation, Haynesworth surely would have gotten the nose tackle job by default. Of course he could excel there, but eating double-teams just doesn't get enough out of what Washington has invested in Haynesworth. Even with the shortage of nose tackles in the league now, Haynesworth is incredibly special, and using his vast skill set in many ways is best for this team.

Kemoeatu also will team with Haynesworth at defensive tackle to be a potentially impenetrable wall in short-yardage situations. On throwing downs, Kemoeatu will rest and watch from the sidelines while Haynesworth attacks upfield at defensive tackle and is flanked with edge-rushers like
Brian Orakpo and Andre Carter.

This signing also allows the Redskins to better concentrate on the offensive side of the ball on draft day. Kemoeatu might never be the same after his injury and Washington may never get a thing from this signing, but the reward vastly outweighs the risk. It might just pay off hugely.
fully healthy from this injury. If he does, this is great news for us!

Strung Out
Glad we signed Kemoeatu.

Haynesworth won't report to mandatory mini-camp tomorrow like he's been saying he would. His agent has said that he wants to be on another team and seeks a trade.

What a strawberry mist douche.

He's not the one that said "Here's $40 million for what you did yesterday. Hope you're excited about work tomorrow."

Too much of a distraction on a Shanahan team.

Shanahan was pretty pissed though. It seems Ol' Albert and his agent promised him and the club that if he took the $22 million on April 1st that he would give the club everything he had. However, the team offered to release him or trade him before that date if he found a team willing. Albert decided to take the money but not join the club.

Not much they can do but fine the crap out of him.

It boggles the mind someone can take a $21M check and not show up.

He's getting a lot of backlash from the media, fans and players and has issued a statement that he is all about "team".

He also mentioned that if it comes down to it he will attend training camp just so he can secure his funds and not be fined a considerable amount.

What a strawberry mist douche.
