No longer loyal to Scouts, boys join Trail Life

Yep, sure do if they are an "adult". When Johnny turns 18, he is no longer a youth in a Boy Scout troop. He is a youth in Venturing (co-ed 14-21 BSA program). So at 18 the "out" gay youth is no longer welcome in the troop, but can still participate as a Venturing youth until he turns 21.

But it gets better... we also discriminate against those that do not agree that there is a "higher power" in the universe. Catholic, Jewish, Buddist, Mormon, Muslim, Wiccan, etc. All these believe in a "higher power", so they are all welcome in BSA.

I didn't realize that, I thought they passed a resolution that gay men could be Scout leaders. What happened to that guy who brought the law suit a couple years back?

Probably because they haven't been forced to vote on it since the last vote that allowed homosexual scouts in. Just a matter of time, me thinks, before PC wins again. Once you compromise, there is no turning back.

Gay children are okay, but not grown men. Why. Are they afraid that they would prey on the boys? Just because they are gay, it doesn't mean they are pedophiles.

That's what the vote was on. As of 1/1/14 openly gay youth are allowed in BSA. Openly gay adults are still not welcome. I expect the ban to be lifted by 2018 as Scouts Canada, Scouts Mexico and BSA are hosting the World Jamboree in 2019 at the Bechtel Summit, the new high adventure base / home of the BSA National Jamboree in West Virginia.

The inverse is to some extent true, most pedophiles are gay, most of them closeted.

I worry about pedophiles in sports, youth and church activities, not gays. If an adult leader in any of those activities is gay but in a relationship with another man, he is no more or less risk than a married man who participates in youth activities or sports that include female teenagers (e.g. volunteering as soccer or softball coach).

Simply this:
What is the Trail Life highest award?

What is Boy Scout's highest award?

Which has more prestige?

Only idiots think that "morally straight" in the Oath means only sexual preference.

The more organizations that take time and resources to provide a program for our youth instead of them running the streets is fine and welcome in my book.

Can't name Trail Life's without the Google, can you?

Eagle Scout. Recognized around the world and most business leaders will tell you, makes a huge difference on a resume.

See, I like what they did with Scouts. Gay leaders, not appropriate; gay scouts, ok. Mainly for this reason --

Boys join Scouts when they're like, 6 or 7 - as a Cub Scout. Or 11 or 12 - as a Boy Scout. And they do Scouting for *years*. Camping, fishing, athletics, crafts - and responsibility.
It's a part of their life.

Then one day when they're in their mid-teens, they realize they're gay; it's not as though they've been "hiding" it since they were 6 or 7 years old. They realize they've always been gay.

And suddenly - they're kicked out of an organization they've been a part of most of their lives. It's not their fault (unlike so very many - I believe gay people are born that way.)

How would the Scout leaders find out he was gay?

If he chose to hide it - they wouldn't. But as it is now, he wouldn't be kicked out if he was.
