not having a college degree seen as a negative thing

If anything you are arguing at he was elected despite knowledge of his education, not based solely upon it. Besides we knew plenty about Obama and his opponents

I find hat answer disingenuous, but if that's your story that is fine. Personally I would take the more educated guy for the obvious reasons.

Your problem is both venue and sample size. You don't have the best and bright teaching at community colleges, and even if you did 5 isn't going to give representative results.

I didn't know the political affiliation of many of my professors. It just didn't come up except for maybe in polysci type courses. The few professors I was close with were actually very conservative.

Bull####.. what you have at community colleges are part time professors that are actually working and have worked for extended periods in theor field.. private colleges are usually "professional students and educators" the only thing they've done is graduate college again and again.. and have NEVER left the college campus for the real working world.. so I guess it depends on your definition of "best and brightest"

Some are also high school teachers that want some extra income.

Many of my engineering professors were in industry at one point and the required research for tenure was often funded by private industry because they did not possess the skill set to do the work and it was simply cheaper to fund the college to do the work.

Liberal Elitists Try Taking Down Scott Walker, Backfires BIG TIME

Only in Liberal Bizarro World is not having a college degree seen as a negative thing. But the fact that Governor Scott Walker didn't complete his college degree seems to be the best attack strategy the Democrats have - except normal people in Reality Town don't mind much at all. This column over at Rare explains several reasons that Walker's degree-free credentials are more likely to help than hinder a potential 2016 bid. Some points from the article -

Most Americans don’t have a college degree. Only about 30 percent of the population has a bachelor’s degree, so 70 percent do not, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. But even without that “formal education,” most of the non-degreed do not consider themselves stupid, and for good reason—they aren’t.

The reason Walker left college. A common liberal theme is that Republicans are greedy and only care about making huge profits on the backs of working Americans. That’s how liberals portrayed Mitt Romney, and it stuck.

Walker did leave college to go to work … for the American Red Cross! So hammering the “he didn’t finish” theme allows Walker to point out he went to work for one of the best, most compassionate nonprofit organizations in the world. If anything, he’s the anti-Romney, which clearly challenges the liberal playbook.

Amazing that so many parents continue to encourage their kids to attend college. What is this world coming to?

Who is Mike Rowe?

In a simple sentence, I would describe him as basically a trade activist but you might know him as the person who stars in "Dirty Jobs" or narrator for "Deadlist Catch." He actually graduated from Towson University, after growing up in Baltimore, with a degree in Communications but over the years, especially since 2008, he has became a strong voice in encouraging others to go the trade route. I saw in interview with him a few years back talking about the lack of diesel mechanics. Apparently because the industry is in such need, employers are paying big bucks for those who can work on diesel trucks, mainly heavy equipment diesel trucks. You know who he is... you just forgot.

And Hijinx, great post. :yay: And although I do understand your point, I think whatever you may have under your belt, whether it be past education or experience should be made available to the public when running for public office.

I don't have a college education and I was actually thinking of running for an elected position.
But then I realized that I can't stand people.

So I opted out.

Smart or what?

Because "they" make you feel like a failure as a parent if you don't. Like your kid will be Joe Sh*t the Ragpicker if he doesn't have a college degree, although we know that some of the most successful people in this most successful country either dropped out of college or have never set foot in an institution of higher learning. The media, the schools, the Joneses...it's like they're all in cahoots.

But I guess they can't indoctrinate your kid to the leftist agenda if they don't get their hands on him in the first place, so that explains their pressure.

So you're saying the libs are dummies who teach at community college, and the best and brightest, who teach at private colleges, are conservatives?
Not at all. Just the few professors I knew socially were conservative, but they all taught/researched the hard sciences.

Subject matters more, History, English, Sociology is where you are going to find those types.

Thats not been my experience at all at all. Community colleges are full of 'teachers', colleges are full of 'experts, researchers, and geniuses'. I mean lets look at he extremes. Vrai's algebra 'professor' verses a research and teaching professor at somewhere like Johns Hopkins.

Vrai's algebra 'professor'

Do not put that in quotes, please, because she is a valid professor educating at the college level. The credit I received in her class is the exact same credit I'd have received at Harvard, so spare me your academic snobbery.

George W Bush is our only MBA to reach the White House and Barack H. Obama has a law degree.

Are there two better examples of just how much a degree can mean?

I've heard of Dirty Jobs, but I don't watch TV regularly so the name doesn't resonate on its own.

There is no point to a kid going to college unless they are VERY interested in specific areas of study. Having been part of three kids going to school, the one who went to do what they were interested in got huge benefit from it, the other two, we would have been FAR better off simply supporting them for a year where their job was to go see and do and explore whatever they wanted. And cheaper, too. The 'experience' gained, if you want to call it that, by going to just go, is a 100% waste of time compared to other things they could be doing with the time and money; living life instead of dicking off with 13th grade. Then 14th and so on. You CAN go back when you're ready and actually interested. Kids not sure and school seems to be an OK decision, even then, it's a waste of time and money. Go DO something. Go BE somewhere. THEN, when you have some real interests, then go.
