... Very intelligent comment. :sarcasm:

great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. the latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence and fulfills the duty to express the results of his thoughts in clear form

I can't believe she just stood there and took it. She really must have been dazed.

Maybe it's just me but I would have taken at least one of them down....AND I would have kicked over the shelf. Damn her knick knacks!

The most painful part for me to see is her just standing there, so defenseless, confused, scared. I can't imagine how her parents feel for this happening to their daughter.

I bet you they signed her up in the first karate class they could find!

Incredible. Isn't the punishment harsher for a premeditated crime? The schemes kids today come up with seem so heartless and, as pointed out in this scenario, they don't even seem to care when/if they do get caught. Life and death (I know the girl didn't die but I don't see a whole lot of empathy here.) don't seem to have much meaning now a days.

Does anyone have a link to the full clip?

I find the whole "30 minutes" hard to believe.

They didn't exactly show the whole 30 minutes and I believe it's been removed from You Tube but MSN reported that the girl had received 2 black eyes and a loss of sight in her left eye and loss of hearing in her left ear.

A mother of one of the attackers is shown saying, "The victim is partially to blame. I don't see how you can say mean things on the internet back and forth and not be able to back it up..."

That's why so many kids get away with doing what they do. The parents support them.

According to the report, they knocked her unconscious and beat her when she woke up. Sweet girls huh? :sarcasm:

You aren't kidding. I'm with the parents who said their child would rather stay behind bars than come home if they ever did something like this. This is just unthinkable to me. It's so cruel.

Did you hear what the mom said in the msnbc.com report?

Don't go making statements if you don't have the nerve to back them up.

Yeah, because 6-on-1 is a fair fight.

It's amazing how the victim just sat there and took it, though. She didn't, at least from the msnbc clips, even try to throw a punch or anything. Then again, from what I saw on the msnbc video, there was a pretty substantal size and age difference.

Like I said, I'd have to see the whole video and have all the facts before I came to any conclusion myself. What kind of statements did she make on myspace? Did she know she was walking into a fight? Did she threaten these other girls?

I'll 'esearch when I get home.

Kerad may not believe it, but the Andy News Network DOES have a research wing.

Next up: Censorship.

Videotaped Florida Teen Beating Prompts Calls To Block Violent Content

Local authorities are also calling on sites like MySpace and YouTube to stop allowing users to upload similar disturbing videos.

The parents of a Florida teen who has lost her hearing and sight want video-enhanced Web sites like MySpace and YouTube to stop allowing users to post videos of such beatings.

Six other teens reportedly beat their daughter on March 30, recorded it, and threatened to post the video on the two top visited sites. The local sheriff is also calling on the Web sites to stop allowing users to upload videos of beatings.

Representatives from MySpace did not immediately return calls for comment. A YouTube spokesperson said the company doesn't comment on individual videos, and the video of the beating was never uploaded. The spokesperson said the community polices the site and flags content they find inappropriate.

I thought I would get physically ill when I saw this, I was so mad! For those girls to orchestrate this and then film it??! From the article, it sounds like they had no remorse - "I guess we're not going to the beach this spring break" and "am I going to be going to cheerleading practice tomorrow?" Holy crap!

And then reading a little further - it looks like here's part of the problem: "But the mother of one of the girls said that Lindsay had provoked the other teens by threatening and insulting them on MySpace, a social networking Web site." Well boo-freaking-HOO! no matter WHAT that girl said on MySpace or any other place, she didn't deserve that terroristic type of attack.

It sounds like these "threats" and "trash talking" is all trumped up :bs:.

The girl's parents now say they are going to home school her (and hopefully teach her basic self defense).

They were provoked because someone said something bad about them.

I was expecting to hear how this was just a common ordinary high school thing that the police should stay out of.

You're right though - nooses weren't hung, and the attackers were white, so it should be a crime. :yay: If the attackers were black, this would all be about how the cops and town are racists.

"They were provoked because someone said something bad about them."

I fail to see how saying something bad (whatever that was) about someone is a provocation which warrants what basically amounts to a full scale terroristic-type of attack on an unsuspecting person.

These girls committed a heinous, criminal act on another girl - this goes way beyond "normal" (using the term loosely) catty, teenage girl behavior. AND they use the fact that she "said something bad about us" as justification for it!

This type of behavior seems to be running rampant in *some* teenagers. That arrogant, unmitigated gall & flagrant disregard of anyone & anything but themselves. Just like the snot-nosed, arrogant little brat who was on the bus & mouthing off at the bus driver a few weeks ago. They seem to not be able to handle being told NO in any way, shape or form, nor be able to tolerate any type of disagreement with them whatsoever.

See my above post.

It's no different than Jena 6. And I'm tossing the :bs: flag on the myspace threats.

These girls should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Hell, I'd support the death penalty in this case. There's nothing, right now, that makes me believe this was provoked.

It was a setup, they wanted to make a Youtube video and lured her in, expecting her to fight back 6-on-1. It's an ambush, and if I were the prosecuter, I'd charge the 6 girls with attempted murder and anything else I could and, if I could, I'd give them the chamber.
