...I loathe this woman.

With many blaming the growing scope of Katrina's devastation on the Bush administration, Sen. Hillary Clinton called yesterday for a 9/11-style probe into how the federal government responded to the crisis.

"It has become increasingly evident that our nation was not prepared," Clinton (D-N.Y.) said in a letter to Bush asking him to set up a "Katrina Commission."

What is wrong with this? Why shouldn't we investigate? I mean come on vraiblonde. The federal response to Katrina was slow and disorganized. We have to, have to, learn from this situation so that it never happens again. In order to do that, there should be hearings and a commission established to discover what we can do better next time.

...the federal response was NOT slow. The first people on the scene were from the dept of homeland security. Not City, not state, the FEDS. It was not disorganized. The state and city were.

Never happen again?

"Get out. Cat 5 possible. You will get killed."

"I ain't leaving anyway"

Go ahead, you fix that.

It is WAY to soon to call for investigation right in the middle of an emergency.
Hillary is being sophmorically political about this. Shouldn't she be shopping for some shoes or something?

 What needs investigating? Why people didn't follow the mandatory evacuation order? Why did many act in a lawless manner once the authorities were focused on rescue?

Lesson number one: Cities built below sea-level can and will flood, no matter what you prepare for Mother Nature will do more then you can imagine. Don't allow for cities to be built in such a precarious location.

Yeah, Raley - let's spend a fortune and create a commission so hurricanes never happen again and, if they do, people will be smart enough to EVACUATE WHEN THEY'RE TOLD TO.

:duh: Boy did you open yourself up with this one....

No investigation needed! :gossip: MPD told me that the Tsunami 3000 machine had a hiccup. :gossip: assures me it has been fixed!!

The Dum Dum 2500 machine was low on battery power and that's why the few stayed behind.

The prototype CAT 5 hurricane machine is still in top secret testing in the skunk works division at Area 51 and will be released at a later date.

I've said too much already.... :whack:

After listening to various sources I have to agree that the Federal response was not slow. Remember Andrew, that was also criticized for a slow response. People have to remember that it's hurricane produced damage and not a stroll through the park for these saviors.

And they just act like some enormous disaster can happen and the feds can be there immediately and evacuate thousands of people within seconds. Who wiped these people's asses before the government took over the roll of TP???

I think this is all crap anyway - some weird hoax. The reporters don't even think to so much as bring Nutrigrain bars into this hellhole - they just come in and shove cameras in people's faces. If you can get your camera crew in there, you can surely bring baby formula, water and some sandwiches.

I liked the argument that said "We've got our camera's, reporters, and producers in this mess, why can't Uncle Sam?"

Poor Uncle Sam has to carry a much much larger load than a camera and satellite truck. Poor Uncle Sam doesn't have a crew of 2-5 but thousands. Poor Uncle Sam just cannot go down to NO on a whim with little organization of what to do once you're there.

 You'd think the media could offer some form of assistance - even if its as simple as letting people use them to get the word out to loved ones that they are okay.

I can sorta see why they don't help though. They're there for the job, not to help. While at work do you tell the local homeless to wait outside the back so that you can offer assistance on your lunch break? Even if these guys did help they had to watch their back, if you had a scrap of food and gave it out you might start drawing an anxious and hungry crowd.

Actually I'm one of those terrible people that feeds the abandoned kitties at lunch. We haven't had any homeless come to this location yet.
If they couldn't offer food I still don't see why they couldn't start making a list of people that they could run on the news screen or in an article as being alive.

I think they did that from time to time, at least on MSNBC and FOX news. They'd do quick interviews of people to tell their families that they were OK or that they were looking for someone in particular. Other than not giving the people much food and what not I think the reporters tried to help out a bit here and there in their own way.

Okay, but how can you go somewhere that hungry children will be and not bring them something to eat? To hell with the adults - they should have evacuated or at least salvaged some provisions. But little kids are completely innocent in this.

I agree but again this is not what they're paid for. This could be considered a tough job being they have to turn their backs to so many. Even if they did bring some food, how could they possibly feed every child? You can only fill a media van so much. And why should one child receive the food over another?

This raises another question I just pondered. Has anyone else noticed that it's basically just male reporters in the thick of it? Most if not all the female reporters were not in NO but Mississippi, Alabama, and Texas. Perhaps it's because the male reporters can better protect themselves from the people. Also it may be because it's a tougher job, females are more sensative to things and may lend out a helping hand and be less able to do what they're being paid for.

Think about it before you smack me ladies.:peace:

Something is better than nothing. Plus they're in designated areas, so it's not like they'd have to feed every kid in the Superdome. I understand that they can't drag them all out of there - where are they gonna take them? But they could have brought some provisions for these people.

And these refugees must be really ignorant. If I were starving and thirsty and some fat reporter stuck a microphone in my face....well, let's just say it wouldn't be pretty.

Any ivestigation should start with mayor Ray Nagin and the Governor, Kathleen Blanco.

That could be. I've seen a couple of female reporters and every single one of them was crying and upset while trying to do their interview. But not Shep Smith or Geraldo! Both of them are shameless in their zeal to rustle up refugees and ask them how they feel.
