Ok, I know I'm dating myself....

...but I was just cleaning out a drawer and came across some 9-track write-rings. Anybody else ever have a write-ring fight ?? Little frisbees flying all over the place?

 We played with those and tile pullers (suction cups) - use to throw them and make 'em stick on the data center glass panels :lmao:

No wonder you have to date yourself. You're old.

I am a lot younger than GW and I remember them. :roflmao:

Aw come on.... I can't be the ONLY guy here that has used these...

CLeValley, BPC, MainMan.... help me out here!!

I have your back on this one

BTW - if you run across any 5 1/4" or 8" floppy disk's let me know, I am collecting old hardware for a IT teacher - actually, any old media hardware to be shown would be nice - if you are willing to donate.

We used to have a boat load of the 5 1/4 at work. I will check to see if there are any that escaped the trash can.

My first job was running a Control Data Cyber 1700 pre-processor with 16K (not meg) of memory. The whole unit took up the average living room.

And yes, I'm old. :lmao:

My first job was working with Vax 11/780's and Vax 8600's - our off-line satellite simulator was a PDP 11/70 with a WHOPPING 64K of memory, core memory that is. I was shown you could flip the switches for the boot loader, start the boot strap and stop the unit, pull the memory card and actually view the memory iron cores - if the slug was up, it was set thus a "1", if it was still down, it was a "0"... you could verify bit-per-bit if the memory was actually working by looking at it. :nerd:

In the shop we had a PDP 11/45 with a uni-bus adapter to test the cards from the 11/75... we also had disk drives where you actually had to do head alignments on them, mag tapes drives aligning the heads as well... when the vacuum assist loading ones came in those were a joy to adjust! If you changed the air filter, you had to re-adjust the whole unit because the change in air pressure would cause them not to load.

Thank God I missed the punch cards, I actually excessed them and sent them out for destruction, that was one of my first tasks!

Oh yeah, I just turned 40, so that makes me younger than you. :neener:

Thanks! I have checked at work and we do not have any... I did open a HDD for her to use, the students get to pass it around and look at the internals of a hard disk. Send me a PM if you find any, I will work it out and come and get whatever from you! :buddies:

I have some zip disks and some 3 1/2 floppies you can have.

I also have a Zip Drive you can use, it's a little abused but it still works. Just PM me.

Quite a few GIRLS used them too. :howdy: First computer job was as an operator of a Sperry-Univac 1100/62 system. The huge computer room back then can now be easily replaced by a single PC. :lmao:

I used to have an IBM 2314 Disk(29MB) and Hitachi(I think) 3330 disk(200mb) and used to have the boot tape (paper) for a honeywell 632, I believe.

Oh he!!..... I JUST shredded about 20 5.25" disks TODAY as I was cleaning out stuff. There's probably more around. What else you looking for? Probably have it tucked away somewhere. 4mm tapes? I have a 4mm drive that doesn't work (SCSI). I have a COMPLETE Atari 800 system with all the bells and whistles, but I was looking to sell that. Old Sears (Epson FX-80) dot matrix printer?

Sorry Jazz... I use the term "guys" generically, not gender specific. I remember you saying that you've been doing this a long time too.

You're all F'in Mad...
Hey VB - can you put your responses, and Pixies into a separate post for me? Thanks in advance...

WHY does my choice of footwear always become an issue???? I'm comfortable, and that's all I care about! If I don't get a date because of my shoes, well, their loss, not mine.

I have a PDP 11/05 that was built into a desk that had a switch panel Control Data Computer ....

3 220v to 5v PS (that must weigh 50 lbs each)
a backplane with various cards

I figure it was for controlling 4 Tape Drives
