A feral cat adopted me, he now eats out of one of the dogs bowl; usually with my feeble 14 yr old hound. I tried all the fancy cat food and kibble; he must have been use to eating whatever, seems to like the dog's chicken, rice, vegetables and kibble.

I have 3 cats total. Oddly, the 2 that do the same thing were also feral when I brought them in. They snatch food off the counters and off of people's plates. Of course I correct them for it.. but they are cats, so they have to be constantly reminded. I've tried various types of food and they wouldn't eat it... they will however eat the cheap crap. Go figure! My huge cat eats anything dry placed in his bowl but turns his nose at wet food.

This tom cat is unlike any cat that has ever owned me. He's more dog-like that cat. Everything is truly on his terms; he's fearless and too dang smart for his own good. He watched me for months; creeping around and eventually made the first move toward any kind of relationship. He's eating habits have taken me months to figure out-I just keep it simple.

Adopt me please !
I use my feral gals ways against her when she tries to eat off my plate, I have tapped her face/nose with my finger to move her back - saying essentially ..... I OWN THIS FOOD ..... and have even resorted to hissing on occasion to back her up away from my plate .... LOL Now and then I'll let her have a bit, but only what I give her, not what she tries to take. :yay:

What exactly is nice about it? The dirty carpet? The cave like ambiance due to the lack of lighting? Maybe it's the put upon attitude you get when you walk in the door? Oh no , wait, I know. It's the way over priced "gourmet" cookies that you can order for a quarter of the price anywhere on the internet. Yeah, great place.

Yikes. I've never been to Clipper's so I can't comment there.

I think someone on here owns/works at Pepper's, so I just wanted to throw this out there...

I went into Pepper's one day with my husband, we had just moved close by, and needed a water bottle for my bunnies. We were looking around to see if there was anything for small animals, and didn't find anything, so I asked the woman behind the counter if they had anything for bunnies. She made the clicking noise I know I make at my teenage daughter when she asks for something there is zero way in heck she is going to get... Anyway, she rolled her eyes at me and turned around walked away and mumbled something about not carrying anything for those animals. My husband and I were a little surprised. I never said I didn't have dogs or cats, we were new to the area, and probably would have ended up using Pepper's quite a bit for our other pets - at the time I was just looking for the water bottle.

I felt really stupid - I mean it's Pepper's Pet Pantry, not Dog and Cat's only pantry, how was I supposed to know? Just not very friendly I guess, everyone has their days though right?

Wow that attitude is really a suprise to me. As a customer, I have heard the owner say she could order special items they normally do not carry if you cannot get it or if you wanted to wait for it. The same goes for special order food for a cat or dog.
Was it a plumper lady with short red hair?
Yep if you are new to the store it is not unreasonable to expect a pet store to carry many different pet items, but I do not think small stores could carry all the items that big chain stores carry and compete successfully. I know their quality dog & cat food prices are a lot cheaper than say Petco.
Peppers Pet Pantry is named in honor after their dog Pepper, whos picture hangs in the main Solomons store.
I have no interest in the store except to see it prosper as I like buying my dog and cat food in a smaller specialty store without the destraction of dead fish floating in the tanks.

How long ago was the incident?

This was probably in June/July of this past summer.

I agree and understand about not having the smaller pet items. I figured it was worth a shot. It would be so much easier to pop into Pepper's than Petco!

My guess is someone just wasn't having the best day. It happens to us all. I don't think the woman had red hair, it was brown if I remember correctly.

In a PM to me, you described an ex employee that we had received complaints about. I apologize for her rudeness and am relieved you will give us a second chance.
PPP recently won the award for "Best Pet Store" in southern MD through the Bay Weekly magazine. Quite the honor since it was our customers that voted for us.
We know most of our customers by name and care about them and their owners :)
There are a few difficult customers to deal with here and there but the wonderful people that come through the doors far outweigh the fidiots.
Unfortunately we cannot carry supplies for all pets but do special order items especially ferret and specific bird foods, special dog and cat foods that we do not carry.

Thanks!! It was wonderful meeting you as well!

Sullivan is doing great so far, and we are loving him. He did not like the original bag of food I had bought, but loved the sample bag that was salmon flavored. Looks like we will be back in for more :)

The California Natural was a bust - Kiki sat there and complained at it until I dumped it and filled the bowl with something else. Seems the Evo is the winner with this group.

California Natural just came out with a grain free chicken dry cat food. Our 5 house cats, who normally eat the CN chicken & rice, have been wolfing it down. We have only had the samples for a couple weeks and have had enough positive feedback to order some already. It is clearly a hit :yahoo:

Cool, thanks! I'll swing by and pick up some samples.
