Oldest Amish school girl "shoot me first"

I've been trying to tune out this story because it is so upsetting. I read an article at work yesterday and was boo-hooing at my desk. There are only a few things in this world that are completely unforgivable... and killing innocent babies is at the top of the list.

One of the things that bothers me about this story is how the gunman sent the adults out of the building - and they left!

Can you believe that? Just took off and left those little girls to the loony! I can't imagine doing that, not even to run and get help.

Aren't they raised to be passive?

That's some pretty strong devotion.

Which, actually, is what Jesus said you're supposed to do - turn the other cheek, let God take care of it, etc. I've just never heard of anyone actually doing that.

Me either. I guess if one has that much faith in their beliefs...

You don't hear much about forgiveness these days either and the mother of one of the children said in an interview that she forgave the gunman.

What a statement? Think about that. Your child is gunned down and soon after a mom can say I forgive like the bible says I should.

This past week, every time I see a buggy going down the road I've thought of this horrible incident. I'm not even affected and I have a hard time forgiving what happened to these innocent children. It is disturbing. :ohwell:

Someone would have to kill me before they had any kind of chance to get my babies. I love God but there is no way in hell I would turn the other cheek on that one.

Of course now I'm thinking about the following story:

A farmer is in Iowa during a flood. The river is overflowing, with water surrounding the farmer's home up to his front porch. As he is standing there, a boat comes up, The man in the boat says "Jump in, I'll take you to safety."

The farmer crosses his arms and says stubbornly, "Nope, I put my trust in God."

The boat goes away. The water rises to the second floor. Another boat comes up, the man says to the farmer who is now in the second story window, "Jump in, I'll save you."

The farmer again says, "Nope, I put my trust in God."

The boat goes away. Now the water is up to the roof. As The farmer stands on the roof, a helicopter comes over, and drops a ladder. The pilot yells down to the farmer "I'll save you, climb the ladder."

The farmer says "Nope, I put my trust in God."

The helicopter goes away. The water comtinues to rise and sweeps the farmer off the roof. He drowns.

The farmer goes to heaven. God sees him and says "What are you doing here?"

The farmer says "I put my trust in you and you let me down."

God says, "What do you mean, let you down? I sent you two boats and a helicopter!!!"

Maybe God put those adults there to save the girls and they bailed on Him.

He had a gun. :ohwell: And enough bullets to kill them all.

I don’t know the validity of that story Vria, but here is one that is true.

A psychiatrist named George Ritchie wrote about World War II death-camp survivors and in that book he wrote about a man named Wild Bill.

Bill was one of the inmates of the concentration camp, but people thought he hadn’t been at the camp for very long. Bill was in Wuppertal since 1939 (6 years) and lived on the same starvation diet the others in the diseased-ridden camp lived. He worked roughly 16 hours a day, but he never showed any signs of weariness while others around him were dragging themselves around with fatigue. His posture was always erect, his eyes bright, his energy indefatigable. Those that described him said his strength grew every day. Since he was fluent in English, French, German and Russian, as well as Polish, he became a kind of unofficial camp translator, and he talked to those in the camp with him into not letting hate and anger eat at them.

You ready for this?

Bill’s family (his wife, two daughter, three little boys) were lined up against the wall and shot to death with machine guns while he watched. He begged the solders to kill him and they didn’t.

He said soon after he decided he wasn’t going to hate the soldiers who had done this. As a lawyer, he saw all too often what hate and holding a grudge can do, and he knew that those that mattered the most were gone because of hate and grudges. He built strength in his faith and loved all of those he came into contact with. Including the solders.

Again, he had a gun, and he knew what his targets were. Young girls. :peace:

Faith, belief, devotion.. BULLCHIT.. they left the kids to a lunatic and HIS will not God's.. There is a time to stand, there is a time to fight.. this would have been the time to fight.

ANd there's no laws in Amish communities about owning guns.. they hunt.. they should learn how to protect their kids.

If you were there, yes, i believe you would have. Just like those passengers did on United Flight 93. If I had been there I would have been right next to you. And I believe that God helps those who help themselves.

But from what I understand these people have not been raised that way. They do not believe in violence. No tooth for a tooth or eye for an eye. They do not see it the way you and I do. So do you really raise the bullchit flag on what they did?

Well, I hate to say it, but they may need to change their ways.. Now every psychopath knows after Post Offices, Schools and anywhere else it's illegal even for people with permits to carry guns, the EASIESTS target now are AMISH communities and schools.

You act like this is something they've been faced with before or even thought of happening?

His selection was not understood nor were they aware of his issue until later, after the fact to those who survived.

Remember, these people don’t watch TV.

I'm actually surprised at the fact that they let reporters take pictures and videos of them. I always thought that they didn't allow that. I remember going to Lancaster for a school trip and they told us, take pictures of anything we want, but please do not take pictures of the amish because it's against their beliefs.
