If they are Amish. probably so. One of the problems the Amish,, their family trees don't have many branches.camily said:"More than 40 buggies splashed along country roads behind a funeral-home car, two mounted state troopers and a carriage with the body of 12-year-old Anna Mae Stoltzfus in a hand-sawn wooden coffin."
I wonder if they are relation to the Stoltzfus here?
Got to agree there. Celie's Geneticist at Children's told me once that the government pays her to come to St.Mary's county to see the Amish. I asked her if there were alot of issues with "inbreeding" and she said "There's alot of evidence that points to that."itsbob said:If they are Amish. probably so. I thought that was the Aborigines in Australia.. stealing their soul and such..Fallen said:I'm actually surprised at the fact that they let reporters take pictures and videos of them. I always thought that they didn't allow that. I remember going to Lancaster for a school trip and they told us, take pictures of anything we want, but please do not take pictures of the amish because it's against their beliefs.
She's right. They don't like "graven images".itsbob said:I thought that was the Aborigines in Australia.. stealing their soul and such..
That's not for you to decide.itsbob said:Well, I hate to say it, but they may need to change their ways..
It wasn't for me to decide about changes after 9/11, but changes happened.vraiblonde said:That's not for you to decide.
Dude, the Amish have been beaten, shot, hung, run off, and every other form of persecution known throughout history. They just keep moving on...their way. This is a rare occurrence, while tragic and horrible it is not going to cause them to change, if anything it will strengthen their resolve.itsbob said:It wasn't for me to decide about changes after 9/11, but changes happened.
I'm not saying what they have to do, or what they should do, but the whacko's have been aiming at "soft targets" for years.. Gov't buildings, Post Offices, Schools.. all the places in the country with the stiffest "NO GUNS ALLOWED" laws.. now this one person has pointed out the softest of the soft targets in this country.. you don't think there will be more to follow?
LOOK, someone can go in there, kill their kids and not only will they not do anythng to protect themselves OR their kids but they;ll also FORGIVE him!!

Yep. Amazing, isn't it?itsbob said:LOOK, someone can go in there, kill their kids and not only will they not do anythng to protect themselves OR their kids but they;ll also FORGIVE him!!
I am not all that familiar with Amish but Mennonites do not own a cameras or take photographs of each other but there is no rule against being photographed by someone else.Fallen said:I'm actually surprised at the fact that they let reporters take pictures and videos of them. Not what I'd call it..camily said:Yep. Amazing, isn't it?
Just as many other cultures do. Why do Catholics light a candle for people in prayer? Why do parents play Santa and the Easter Bunny? It's just what you do. I was actually serious about the candle thing. I was raised catholic and never really understood it.itsbob said:"I always find it interesting to hear the explanations the Amish give for this aversion to pictures. One day I asked an Amish girl whether it had something to do with the Second Commandment. Her answer was, "I don’t know, but that’s what the tour guides say."
Too bad, you would probably look spankin with a long beard and a wide brimmed hat too.itsbob said:Not what I'd call it..
That was my understanding also.. they don't want to be treated like animals in a zoo, with people lined up at their fences taking photos and videos of them taking their pictures, but other then that, you ask to take their pictures, and they will probably pose for you, unless you;re the 200th person that day to ask.Pete said:I am not all that familiar with Amish but Mennonites do not own a cameras or take photographs of each other but there is no rule against being photographed by someone else.
