Grover, I'm going to connect some dots for you - ready?

Al Qaeda attacked Spain because of them siding with the US in the Iraq War. What does this tell you?

you know what, fanatics will use any reason... fanatics = unreasonable

yes, that's what they are saying now... but just watch, there'll be more attacks still irregardless of pulling their troops out of iraq. nobody is safe as long as there are fanatics out there willing to die for their cause.

Agree. Another thought: When Al-Quada or another terrorist regime marches down the streets of Spain, then they will be crying HELP to the U.S.

By George, I think he's got it! Pulling troops out of Iraq isn't going to make the terrorists go away. But the people of Spain obviously believed it will - that's why, right after the attacks, they voted in record numbers for the guy who will appease and pacify.

but... i'm going to quote again.

"Spain supported the US-led war on Iraq despite much domestic opposition. "

Yes, Spain supported the U.S., as they and any nation in the western world should. No one is immune from the bullies of terrorism. Just because Spain wants to pacify the terrorists, doesn't mean they won't get struck again, or get taken over by extremists.

Let me clarify - Aznar supported the US-led war on Iraq. There's a new guy at the helm now and he's made it clear he doesn't support the war and intends to pull Spanish troops out.

And here's another article:
Spanish PM-Election May Bring Troops Home
"Zapatero campaigned on a pledge to order Spain's 1,300 troops home. He made clear Monday he is prepared to fulfill it."

"Aznar's conservative Popular Party, which had led pre-election polls before the Madrid train bombings, fell from 183 seats to 148."

Looks like simple logic to me. The terrorist attack affected the outcome of the election and, in turn, the foreign policy. This is what the terrorists want.

Do you think that the terrorists' success will make them more peaceful or embolden them?

And another:

Aznar's Popular Party had been favored to win Sunday's election over the opposition Socialists and gain a third straight term in power. Only its majority in Parliament is in doubt....

...Analysts commenting on Aznar's record before the blasts agreed he deserved credit for placing Spain on the map and transforming it from a snoozing geopolitical backwater into a country with first-world interests and opinions and the nerve to defend them.

Well...

...not sure how to answer this one:

don't forget that newspapers and reporters a not impartial... they have their own agendas.

If we can't use reports and/or statistics then we'll just have to go with our own reasoning.

Supergrover: Why do you think, in your own words, Al queda blew up the trains and people?

I'll wait...

So...does their action guarrantee that we get hit again?
Is it time to visit the capital one last time before its flattened or contaminated?

(That thought crosses my mind every time I visit a famous landmark & symbol of our freedom/patriotism...how long will it last before Islamofascists take it down?)

Yes... Why don't we sink back in our hole and Hope the terroist don't come after us again..... All we have is our Freedom and Liberty. If you allow their terroist plots to instill fear and terror into your lives and we become dormant b/c we are scared they may attack us again, then we are already dead. We can rebuild any structure that they destroy as long as we embrace our Freedom and are willing to fight for it. Thank God we have a President that's not some afraid weenie.

Super grover's link was very enlightening...a) look at the 10 people they interviewed: Unemployed...and actor, two journalists...A very curious collection of voices.
The one that demonstrated the most hope in the new socialist goverment sang the socialist anthem..it goes like this:
"It is good that the socialists have won. They are stronger and will give us more security, less terrorism, less unemployment."
or in other words...
I am looking forward to what they will do for us...

Anyway: The nation of fascist Fransisco Franco looked on while Europe burned from 1939-1945...perhaps they would like to be left alone again, its just none of their business isn't it?
Rejoin the other world leaders like Mozambique, Moldavia and Bhutan.

I think this was the same approach they took with Hitler... Yeah, you are right! :bubble:

Al Qaeda Opens First Embassy in Madrid

by Scott Ott (2004-03-16) -- Spain's newly-elected socialist prime minister today declared the start of a "new era of protection from terror" as he cut the ribbon at the grand opening of the al Qaeda embassy in downtown Madrid....

... "Spain's involvement in the war on terror caused the recent train station bombings," said Prime Minister-elect José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. "Now that the Spanish people have elected a socialist government, and embraced al Qaeda's diplomats, we have nothing to fear. Al Qaeda has promised to protect us from extremists like those at the U.S. White House and Pentagon."

Mr. Zapatero said he was "pleasantly surprised at al Qaeda's reasonable pricing for high-quality protection."

So in other words, you don't believe the truth unless it's presented to you like pablum on a plate with a sippy cup from a liberal news source?

Figures.

I think SuperGrover was saying that the arrogance of the other article didn't help the author's case.

I agree 100% that Spanish voters effectively surrendered to Al Qaeda. But I don't believe that was their conscious intention, to act out of fear. I believe the voters are so rabidly anti-Bush that they blame him Al Qaeda targeting Spain, and they took out their misguided anger on Aznar. Their hatred of Bush blinded them to the deadly consequences of their actions, I think.
