Skip the P90X drink mix, it's too expensive. Got to Wal-Mart or BJ's and pick up some whey protein drink mix. There is a small amount of creatine in the P90X mix which helps with muscle building, but you can take a supplement in the form of a tablet and get the same amount of creatine.

Here is the recipe for my after workout drink (when I was working out regularly)

1 scoop of whey
1 scoop of Ovaltine chocolate drink mix
1 banana
2 strawberries
14 ozs milk
double handful of ice

Blend well and drink up. You should try to get this down within 30-60 minutes of your workout.

I made some of this concoction last night with one change. I didn't have any Ovaltine, instead I used Shaklee meal shake mix (chocolate). It was really good! Not really sure how 14 oz of milk and the other ingredients made over 32oz of smoothie but whatever. Used it as a combination of recovery after PlyoX and dinner.

BTW, did anyone else feel a let down during the "recovery week?" I feel almost like I'm starting all over again. Chest, shoulders and Tri's with ARX was brutal and plyoX seemed really hard last night too. Hoping that this wasn't just me...

It's supposed to feel that way. Your body said, "ahh, that craziness is over!" Then BAM! right back at it which required those resting muscles to get fired back up to move and grow so you can get results. :yay:

Have you ever switched up the fruits you put into the smoothie/recovery drink? I'm thinking berries such as blue, raspberries and others of the sort. Better allocation of antioxidents as well. I understand the banana for potassium needs just want to switch up the flavors. :dye:

My youngest son and wife usually go through all the blueberries before I get a chance to try. Bananas and strawberries are my no fail, go to fruits usually. I drink a fair amount of green tea with acai berry for the antioxidants.

DONE!

Yeah, so I skipped about half of the yoga routines but only missed 4 or 5 workouts for the entire 90 days. Now to figure out what's next ... I have the Warrior Dash on the 21st so I hit the pavement tonight for 2.5 miles. I'll mix in some of the resistance routines to keep my tone and strength while increasing my run distances, along with a soccer game or two every Friday night.

3 full inches off the waist and 17 lbs off the rest of me, without even trying that hard (nutrition wise).

Glad you've completed it Kom! Congrats!

I've also completed the program but I didn't want to go through it again so I've changed my workouts to 5 times a week. I've put away the Yoga, Kenpo Cardio, Stretch and a few others. I now use 3 of the weight workout DVD's (shoulders bi's tri's, back & Ab ripper) on M-W-F and do the Plyo & Core Syn on Tues & Thurs.

I feel great and people say they notice a slight difference but I have to say that I didn't get MY desired results because I didn't follow the eating plan to the letter. I lost about 10 pounds then gained it back mostly in muscle though (which is good).

PS: I did fall in love with Maren in the first video though. She is "bad a$$" as Tony says!

At least I was able to finish the program before I decided to break my leg.

:yahoo:

Glad you finished it. I'm still waiting to get cleared from my doc to be able to start back up again. Sadly, my husband is going back to Iraq at the end of the month and with us pushing each other it made it somewhat easier to do the program. But on the flip side of that, if I start back up while he's gone, won't he get a nice surprise when he gets back.

My husband started P90X this week. I'd like to do it too, but I can barely do push-ups on my toes, and am not even close to one chin up. I can't even hold myself up in the overhand grip pull up position (boosting myself up to the bar on a chair). My husband showed me the very first workout with all of the push ups and pull ups and I'm no where near ready for that.

I know I can do more push ups each day to build up for the push ups. What can I do to build up for pull ups? Going to a gym with an assisted pull up machine is not an option as I do all my exercise at home. I've tried looping a resistance band around the bar and a leg, but it kept coming off and I didn't do much other than hurt myself in the process. I saw what the one guy in the workout did, but I don't have something high like that to loop a band around...

Right now I'm doing Chalean Extreme, which I like, but would like to switch things up when I'm done with that program in 3 weeks.

I thought the same thing when I started, I didn't do pull ups, chin ups, we used the bands which give pretty much the same effect. When I finished the first go 'round I was doing push ups even though I could barely do 1 when I started. Each day you get stronger and can do more. I just started out doing what I could and went from there. I'm starting back up on June 1 for another 90 day round.

Definitely check this thread again later today. I'll post a few tips for you to try out to help you and your husband succeed with P90X.

There are a ton of exercises on Bodybuilding.com - Huge Online Supplement Store & Fitness Community!. You just have to search the internet for workouts. Watch 'The Biggest Loser' and the like to get workout/training ideas. My new thing is with long, heavy ropes, and it is a killer conditioning workout!

Don't worry about not being able to do many exercises. If you could do the workouts perfectly then you wouldn't need to do P90X.

To get better at pull ups you have to do pull ups. Using bands will only get you so far, but it'll never help you get to doing pull ups.

There are two ways to get better at pull ups. The first is to put a chair under the bar and use your leg to help you up. I don't prefer this method because you have to be conscious of how much you're using your leg. You want to use just enough so that your back and arms do as much work as they can.

The better way is to do what's called negatives. To do these, use a chair to step up with your chin over the bar, as if you had just finished a pull up. Then, using the grip position for the exercise, hold yourself up over the bar, lift your leg off the chair, and slowly lower yourself down, 3-5 seconds if you can. Then repeat.

Negatives will wear you out. I was doing 12-15 chair assisted pull ups, then switched to negatives and could only do 3 or 4 in a set. But within one week I was doing unassisted pull ups.

If you aren't able to do negatives, then use the chair and work your way up. As soon as you can do negatives though, you should. They'll help you get better at pull ups faster than any other way.
