Hi to all the X'ers on here. I am in the middle of week 2, doing yoga tonight. I started back up after being overzealous and trying to keep up with "peg leg" right out of the box in January. Needless to say, pride got in the way and I was layed up with strains and pulls everywhere for a while...
Anyway, I am back at it and feeling pretty good. Using discretion, but still pushing hard every night. My question is, when will I start to see any results on the scale? My arms, chest and abs are showing signs of change already but the scale is NOT MOVING!! How long was it until you started to drop weight?
Found a great website called myfitnesspal.com which is basically a calorie counter that has a huge database with everything you could want to eat as well as exercise counter. Its free and relatively easy to use.
When you will see results depends on a lot of things.
The more you have to lose, the faster you will see results. Also it depends on your gender, age, and diet among other factors.
You need to manage your expectations with this program. It is not a miracle fix-all. You will get out what you put in, but it takes time to work. You might not see any pounds drop until the third month. You might even gain weight. But if you drop body fat, that's a good thing.
Many people get discouraged with P90X because they don't lose weight "fast enough." The results will come, just be patient. I always think of my current exercise in future terms. That is, the workout I do today will yield results next week, or next month, or later. That goes for what I eat too.
I've been doing P90X consistently since around Thanksgiving and I'm currently in my second time through. I've lost about 6-8% body fat in that time. What I weigh doesn't matter because I'm improving my body composition. I've also improved my blood pressure, cholesterol, and liver study, none of which show up on my bathroom scale but are directly related to improved fitness and health.
One piece of advice to keep in mind, and maybe you already learned this after your first attempt... just do the best that YOU can in each exercise. Don't get discouraged if you can't keep up with the people on the disc. If you could, you wouldn't need P90X. They are there to show you what to strive for, not what you should be able to do. You'll get better at everything over time.
I could not do any pull ups on day 1. Now I can do about 4 in a row, and I still can barely do any wide pull ups without a chair. Plyo is an intense workout. If you burn yourself out after the first circuit, and you can't do any of the rest, you don't get as much out of it as you would if you paced yourself and worked less intensely for the whole hour.
I hope this helps. I recommend checking out the P90X facebook page or the beachbody website. Both places have lots of good discussions and advice.
