Panera's Table Hog

Gophette and I were meeting another couple at Panera's today for lunch. It was noon so the place was understandable crowded with few available tables especially for foiur people. While we were waiting I observed a gentleman enjoying the free WiFi services at a table for four. He didn't have any food or even a beverage at his table. He may have enjoyed his meal earlier and just chose to continue sitting at the table. I don't know how long he was there before we arrived, but he was there for almost an hour after we got there and never ordered anything else. The entire time he continued to tie up a able with 4 seats when he could have easily continued his work or porn surfing at any of the two seat tables that were available through the restaurant.

How long does the purchase of an ice tea or a full meal pay the toll for a table that is clearly intended for food services and not a telecommuting location?

If the management thought it was a problem, I'm sure they would have asked him to move to a smaller table

could you all have sat at a 2 person table (tight squeeze I know) and then gone and took the extra chairs from him....kind of making it obvious to his oblivious self.

There 2 person tables are small round things and barely fit two. I guess if no other tables were available, we could have just stood over him to see how uncomfortable we could have made him.

Free resources attract free loaders.

Amen. I guess he didn't want to sit in his car in the heat and jack in to the free WiFi. I am pretty sure that the signal passes further than the walls. I also can't recommend the library enough. There are several branches around here and they all offer FREE WiFi. The Lexington Park branch also has cookies and coffee.

I was at Panera today at 10 am, and ordered the "soup for a group" combo. It was yummy! I always get the chicken noodle!

Well, after eating and clearing my table, I settled down to work on my blog about my quest for a footlong chili-cheese dog in SMC. I spread all my data sheets for all the restaurants I had visited so far, when I noticed some broad staring at me like I had killed Caylee Anthony.

Heck, I was just minding my own business...

That was weird... :twitch:

It could have been the district or regional vice-president sitting at the table.

Panera is not a place I would sit and eat. Call in and pick up. They offer the wireless service for a reason. Friendly service, good food and a connection.

My daughter lives in Brooklyn. Awesome deli next door. Two tables (of three) and a shelf in the front window with three stools. Order takeout or try and find a seat. No free wireless.

This has nothing to do with Panera (Brooklyn) but Panera advertises their free wireless. If they take it away they would probably lose their best business clients. Imagine losing a big client because you kick them out.

BS...it's allegedly a restaurant not a cyber cafe. And the big deal is if you want to sit and do work over WiFi...and you are by your self...take a table for two and don't waste the space that other people could use.

Maybe some folks avoid restaurants like Panera because ASSHATS take up space that other people could use to actually eat.

There's actually a couple of soft seats near the fireplace that don't take up any table space at all.

If he paid for food he's allowed to do his thing. If he's working he is probably not worried about making sure everyone is comfy

If it was in PF, the library might have been full.

At least he isn't getting paid and surfing all day.
