Who's to say when that guy walked in the only table available was a four person one....is he then supposed to move his operation to another table?...I wouldn't

No, I agree with that, but thats one way it could have gone. Do you agree iff it wasn't that way, he was being selfish?

He wanted the table for his needs; you wanted the table for your needs. Whose needs trump whose?

I am so very blessed
If that "someone" wanting a table, holding their tray of food and drink in their unstead hand, is someone's sweet grandmother and grandfather and their two elderly friends, wouldn't you want the thoughtless table whore to relenquish their table to them?

I would hope so.

What if it were your grandparents? Wouldn't you hope that someone would be kind and give up their table to them?

Maybe it's a mom who just took her three kids to the doctor for their beginning-of-school-year-shots, and they are frazzled, hungry, and they just want to eat their lunch quicky and get home?

I remember when my mom had her first big stroke. After leaving her at the hospital, we stopped by Panera for a quick bite to eat. Baby Bubba was less than three weeks old, my mom was paralyzed, couldn't speak, and had turned in to a baby herself. All I wanted was a place to sit down and eat, and think about the challenges ahead for us.....and not to think about if I had to stand up eating my meal while some person hogging a table would move or not.

That gets back to my point about fitting your needs to the location. The need of people to eat should trump the need of the people to do computing, in a restaurant, anyway.

Methodically disorganized
If that "someone" wanting a table...
What if they were a paralyzed veteran who returned home yesterday and is trying to spend a fun day out with the family?

It is equally valid to ask, what if someone my age walked up and wanted to sit there with their laptop and a bagel?

These scenarios can go on and on, and one's decision to cede their seat/table would depend on the situation.

I would feel bad taking up a table for four by myself when others needed to sit to eat. But sadly enough most people are pretty selfish.

so the guy walks in, orders a lunch, pays for it, walks into the dining area and a four seat table is the only one open

so what's he supposed to do when 3/4 people come in looking for a table, get up and eat/drink his meal standing up....

if you're seating at a two seater by yourself, would you prefer he ask you to move your food so he can plop down and enjoy his lunch with you at your two seater??

Nope, if that was the only seat, thats fine. Would you agree that it a two seater was open and he blew that off for a four, he was being selfish?

if Panera thought it was a problem. they'd have a hostess....how about 2 people taking up a table for four...is that selfish?....I guess singles should probably eat in their cars...actually I'm not going to walk in and assume anyone is being selfish for all I know he sat down with three others and they had to leave before him...if think most single people probably would opt for a table for two....

Again, it's not about him eating at a table for 4. There was no food or drink on his table. He may have finished already and continued to sit or he may have just come in, logged on and started to work. If he was eating by himself or eating and telecommuting at a table for 4, that may be a little bit inconsiderate but possibly understandable. To tie up a table for 4 when other options are available (and would still meet his needs) is what I believe most people would think is inconsiderate.

If all that is needed is a place to telecommute, think library.

Who wants to go to Panera's for a sandwich? We can set it up through the forum and IM each other from separate tables when we get there.

You felt your need to sit you and your wife's fat *** down was greater than his need to do what ever work he was doing. You made an assumption that he was either working or surfing for porn. ( I guess you figured this out because those are the only two uses you have for a computer). You have no idea what his impact is on the business because you have no idea what he spends there. Maybe he is the restaurant's most loyal customer and spends hundreds of dollars there a week. You have no idea, but your self importance makes you want to come on here and rant about his bad behavior because of your feeling of superiority. STFU! Ignore that!

My you are an angry person, aren't you???
